Welcome to the glorious RP Nation Planning Thread! Use this to post stuff about the nations you plan on creating once the role-play gets started and discuss shared histories, and definitely not to claim things in advance. No. Never.
This is the current map of everyone's planned claims so far:

DP, but have people decided on nation names and religions? I need to know which nations colonized and if it is okay to use Christian saints (like calling a city San Juan).

After the french partial invasion of the Holy Roman Empire in 1033 the empire was left weak and allowed many of the states to just do as they wished. This lead several city-states to declare war on Stelz. Stelz won them all and came out as a strong duchy-size nation. The people surrounding the duchy of Stelz grew worried and formed a giant coalition consisting of Neuborg and the Newlands, together they had almost double the power of Stelz. They didn't take long to declare war upon Stelz. Before all hope was lost a brave group of heroes (later believed to be a bunch of hired thugs) assassinated the dukes of Neuborg and Lowlands. They wore lizard masks to protect their identities. In the following confusion Stelz took the opportunity and attacked, securing both duchies. The duke of Stelz now decided to call himself king. He formed the UDG that still exists today. The rivalry between the dukes is long gone and they now live peacefully together as a strong nation. These events took place somewhere near year 1200.
The next 300 years consisted mainly of investing into the realm. Creating economic growth and stability. There was a few border skirmishes with other nations and some minor borders changed. But for the most part UDG existed in peace.
The year 1512 the then king of the UDG decided that there was much fortune to be had in the so called "new world". He sent a couple of small fleets with settlers to try to settle land in south america. The project was initially successful but due to the UDG's lacking navy control over the colonies were bad at best. After a few years the colonies had been lost to conquest or native raids. The king begrudgingly gave up on the project and since then there has been no official records of attempt at other colonies.
The UDG has never been known for its navy, instead it focuses on a strong offensive based land force. Known for pioneering new tactics, units and weapons.
To celebrate the heroes the ceremonial suit used by the royal family and diplomats during important events is black scaled armor. This is a tradition that started originally as appreciation to the heroes that saved Stelz from conquest.

The UDG is a constitutional monarchy. The UDG is ruled by a king. The king owns the Crownlands and serves as its duke as well as being king. The UDG's government works like this: The king makes a proposal, the dukes each get one vote (as does the king). If there is a tie the king's heir serves as tiebreaker.
Both the dukes and the kings inheritance are ruled by Agnatic-Cognatic Primogeniture.
The current dukes/king is as follows:

Use a couple peoples' maps to make a mockup of what you think would work better, then, and we'll see if it makes more sense.

You didn't explain much on how zones of control work with overseas territories and islands, so I just let them jump water at a sensible distance. JD hasn't fleshed out his nation as well (and he doesnt have my kick ass flag). I guess it comes down to who posts first. If I can't have my Spanish-speaking island republic, I'll just have to settle for Iberia. I know their history and language both well.Yuriski wrote:Might I redirect you guys to this? ZoC on islands are down to moderator decision whether they are too far away or not.

My Floridian spaghetti is beautiful. No denying it. 
I think that the port cities and the Floridian territory is reasonable. Santiago de Cuba or Guantanamo is my city for the greater Antilles and Bahamas, San Juan for Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles, and Tampa for the Gulf and Floridian port cities.

Technically, since there's no applications up yet, you could pick anywhere. But yeah, you can make cities within claimed territory (within reason, don't make cities right inbetween other people's cities just because you can) because claims don't actually mean anything mechanics-wise. Zone of Control is different.

The Western Americas where originally colonized by the Spanish in the mid 17th century, the native where subjugated and forced into worshiping the Catholic religion. In the late 17th century the american revolution in the east caused the ideas of freedom and democracy to race among the populace, yet only small underground groups took action and where only a minor nuisance to the Spanish army. Spain soon fell on hard economic times whilst trying to manage it`s large amount of colonies and a hard tax fell onto the colonies populace. Enraged by the ridiculous taxes the Western Americas Rose up in rebellion, and after a long and bloody 20 year war, the Western Americas had gained independence. Like their eastern cousins a republic was put in place and The Western American Republic was born. In the Early 1800`s the Western American Republic saw a huge inflow of immigrants all sparked by the discovery of gold discovered in the region. The Gold Rush changed the Western American Republic, the dominant language changed from Spanish to English, and the Inheritance where exposed to many different religious and cultural ideals. In the end The Western American Republic remained a place of free worship and low racial tensions. Now the young nation enters the next century prepared for anything coming it way.

- During the siege of Constantinople, Sultan Mehmed II died when a well placed arrow struck him down, causing the Islamic host to withdraw, and in effect causing the Ottoman Empire to fall apart. This opportunity to retake lost territory was taken by Emperor Constantine XI, who greatly expanded the Empire throughout the Southern Balkans, but he would die of a disease which is still unknown, but speculated to be Influeza. His son, Andronikos VI would continue his father's work and expand further into the Balkans, but would mostly focus on the infrastructure and standard of living, and would die of old age in 1509. This death ended the first expansionist era of the Byzantine Empire, and about 50 years later, Gunpowder weapons arrived in Constantinople, allowing the soldiers to kill even the most heavily armored enemies, and send boulders flying at twice the speed a trebuchet could do it. By 1700, a large amount of Anatolia had fallen to the Byzantine Empire, which was at the time ruled by Emperor John XIV, who was known as Emperor John the Great, and finally made a bridge from Constantinople to Anatolia, (even though it didn't stay up for long after his death). He died when of old age, living to ripe age of 81.After his death, the Palaiologan Dynasty died out in 1798, and a member from the Komnenos Dynasty was chosen to be Emperor. His name was Alexios XII, who would bring about great reforms, such as making a Parliament for the nation, finally giving the people a say in what happens in the country.

- While the Official Religion is Christianity, people in the Restored Empire of Byzantium do have religious freedom, as long as it does not involve murdering people or any other forms of violence.

I have reasons not to use Imgur, such as it ending up in some random place with really bad things on it... But I will look into it.
