Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- Through an contract with Albert Krupp AG, the government seeks to expand the frontiers of science in Mittelamerika. The new University of Karlsburg will become a modern center of scientific understanding.

Today the Minister of Sciences Gustaf Fugger announced an cooperation between the government and Albert Krupp AG, to create the new University of Karlsburg. The budget for this new project is set to be 18,750,000 Mittelamerikan Thalers. An impressive ammount of money, but "necessary" according to Gottfried Von Frentz, an important figure in the Mittelamerikan Natural Science community. He means that currently, two larger universities are being built in the heart of the Holy Roman Empire on the continent, and that if Mittelamerika wishes to stay competitive with the world, they too need to invest in education.

The main features of this new Universities, will be larger buildings to house more students and experiments. New state of the art scientific equipment will also be featured in this new university.

Country priest criticises slavery!

May 1804

Alfred Scherber speaking to the masses

Neu Lübeck | Mittelamerika -- A country priest by the name Alfred Scherber stirred alot of controversy earlier this week, during one of his speeches condeming the Mittelamerikan tradition of slavery, calling it 'ungodly' and 'uncivilized'.

During a cermon on the countryside outside Neu Lübeck, a local parish priest by the name Alfred Scherber condemned the system of slavery, calling it 'ungodly' and 'uncivilized'. Reffering to the bible verse Exodus 21:16 "Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possesion of him, shall be put to death".

Many local land owners in the highly agrarian region of Nue Lübeck dismiss the priest as a lost lunatic, and someone that one should be taken with 'an grain of salt'. However, some people has been convinced and joined the ranks of the abolitionist movement according to local rumor.

Attempts has been made to reach the govenor of Welserland to hear his comment on this, however he refused to comment.

Agrarian expansion in Mittelamerika

September 1804

Die Kolonie Sugar-plantation-1823
Sugar plantation in Soninsel

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- Countless hectars of marshes and jungle are to be cleared and irrigated for future plantations of sugar, cotton and other cash crops and food.

Yesterday the Department of Agriculture announced plans to further expand the agrarian sector of the Mittelamerikan economy, by transforming large portions of land into arable land. Something which has been met with much support from the many land owners in Mittelamerika, who will no doubt be able to expand their many estates.

The entire project is expected to cost 14,062,500 Mittelamerikan Thalers, and will focus largerly on the island of Soninsel (Cuba) but also in parts of Welserland.

Liberal activists has condemned the nature of this project, claiming that it will mostly benefit rich slaveholders who will be able to buy larger estates and thus further ingrain slavery into the Mittelamerikan economy. They also go on to say that the government should subsidise small family farms, trying to settle this new arable land to discourage slavery. However, no such proposal has been passed by the Bundesrat.

Ernst Bauer, a large estate holder told us in an interview that the liberals are delusional. Meaning that native-americans in Central and South America are "Sub-human apes, barely able of concious thought", and thus it is the Mittelamerikan mans god given right to use them as slaves just like they have the god given right to use cattle on their farms.

It is no doubt true that slaves are an integral part of the Mittelamerikan economy. However the debate is beginning to escalate and resemble more the debate of the 1730s once more, as both sides are being more and more radicalised. Both sides are pushing for the government to settle this issue once and for all.

Italian church visit results in controversy

November 1804

Die Kolonie Wesley_preach_470x352
Italian Missionary spreading the word of god to the citizens of Karlsburg

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- The clergical convoy, authorized by Patriarch Pius VIII reached Mittelamerika two weeks ago, and has during its time stirred controversy in the country.

Earlier this week, a priest during his cermon in the Cathedral of Karlsburg stirred significant controversy when he tried to touch on the highly controversial issue of slavery in front of the masses of Mittelamerika. He went on to refute the words of country priest Alfred Scherber and announced his full support for the plantation owners of Mittelamerika.

This has caused a mixed reactions by the Mittelamerikan public. Some supporting the words of the priest and going on to say that this alone should be enough to settle this debate. However Abolitionists has highly condemned the words of the priest, and some even went as far as to say that the priest should go on to read his bible before he come to Mittelamerika to preach about the word of god.

In general this has been seen somewhat of a backlash towards the church. While some Abolitionists has gone over to the pro slavery side, many people both pro slavery and abolitionists agree that the Italian Church should not meddle in this purely Mittelamerikan issue. Analysts believe that actions of the priest has further increased the anti-european sentiment that already exists. Not only that, but also that the liberal voter base and that the more Liberal aristocrat families that currently holds little more than 10% of the Bundesrat, are going to push for more secular politics.

The government has been asked to comment on this issue, but all requests has been denied. It is believed that the government is trying to stay neutral in this conflict and to try and appease both sides to reach some sort of compromise in the future. A "dangerous tactic" according to a professor of the University of Karlsburg.

The Declaration of Imperial Loyalty

December 1804

Die Kolonie Continental-congress
The first congress of Imperial Patriots, held in Karlsburg

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- A group of 1,000 pro-empire sympathisers signed the "Declaration of Imperial Loyalty", thus forming Die Kaiserliche Front. An organisation that seeks to stop the secession of Mittelamerika from the Empire.

Earlier this week 1,000 delegates originating from all over the country, gathered in Karlsburg in the First Congress of Imperial Patriots to sign the Declaration of Imperial Loyality. Stating that they will fight for the unity of the Empire both politically and militarily if necessary.

An interview with the head of this organisation "Albert Krupp", a rich man famous for the Albert Krupp AG states; "We need to stay together with our homeland if we wish to succeed as a nation. It was the homeland that brought us here in the first place, and the homeland that has protected us from other European agression throughout history. We wouldn't survive without them, Mittelamerika would not even be a concept without them. We built our economy selling rare metals to the Kaiser, even our army is modelled after some states in mainland Europe!"

Heinrich Gossler, a prominent independence proponent quickly branded Albert Krupp and his 999 companions as "Traitors" and that all he is doing is "escalating the situation" and that he is only acting for "his greedy buisness ambitions".

As the things escalates further, more and more people are taking sides for what seems to become the third crisis in the independence debate. Most liberals are siding with the Independence movement, meaning that a monarchy is a thing of the past but also that more people should be able to vote in Mittelamerika. They get financial and political aid mainly from the Steiner and the more conservative Gossler family, both of which holds seats in the Bundesrat.

Meanwhile the more reactionary families such as the Krupp and von Frentz which holds roughly 20% of the seats in the Bundesrat, are expected to support the Pro-Empire faction together with their voters and sympathisers.

The more conservative families such as the Welser and Fugger which together holds more than 50% of the Bundesrat are urging their voters and sympathisers to stay neutral and let this debate die down. They mean that both sides has good and bad arguments, and that both sides screams for armed conflict, will not benefit anyone.

Only time will tell if the mostly conservative population of Mittelamerika will listen to their politicians or start taking sides in this more and more heated debate.

Birth of "Die Kaiserliche Front".
Militancy of Independence movement increased.
Abolitionist movement -6% ("Our nations independence/loyalty from/to the Empire is more important than the slavery debate...")

Mittelamerikan settlements in Bereiach

December 1806

Die Kolonie Bolivia600
An artist impression of the new settlement

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- A new colony promises Mittelamerika and the empire many riches, and a rebirth of the Krupp mining industries.

Rare minerals has long been suspected to exist in South America, just like they did in Central America before Mittelamerikan industries depleted the mineral resources nearly two decades ago. However, prospectors from "Albert Krupp AG" has been reporting the discovery of gold, silver, copper and many other rare minerals in the region that we call Bereiach (Guyana).

This has drawn the interests of many unemployed miners and people who look to find fortune in the new world. Something which the Krupp family has taken to their advantage in their ambitions to revive their mining industries in the Americas.

The discovery is belived to be able to create new jobs for many many thousands of Mittelamericans, and are belived to be a large boost to the Mittelamerikan economy as rare metals can be sold to Europe and North America for large profits.

The Krupp family is expected to gain more popularity as this new settlement gets established, maybe even to the point that they have much more political say in the Bundesrat in the future. Something which could considerably change the political status quo in Mittelamerika according to a proffessor in Karlsburg University.

The Independence Debate heatens up in the electoral debates

January 1808

Die Kolonie American-independence-day-4
The great debate taking place in the Reichstag

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- Earlier this week, electoral debates for the upcoming in the Reichstag has gone away from the usual domestic policies to a more pressing issue. Should Mittelamerika finaly declare independence? Should they aim for more representation? Should they stay loyal to the Empire? And should ordinary people be allowed to vote?

The recent debates has clearly divided the Reichstag, with the ten Senators of the four States and observerers yelling degrading slurs towards each other such as "Traitor!" "Populist!" and "Fat docile pig!" was also another insult that was aimed towards the current Chancellor.

There are currently three major schools of thought in the Reichstag that are dividing the political elite. The more liberal families such as Steiner and Gossler believes that Mittelamerika should either get enough representation in the Imperial Diet of the HRE as the "Germanic Free States Federation" or declare complete independence from the crown. They belive that Mittelamerika is not getting enough representation in Imperial Politics, and that the Mittelamerikan people should be able to decide their own future.

Furthermore, they belive that all free men should be able to take part in the election process. An idéa which has gained much popularity in the lower classes of Mittelamerika.

However both the reactionary families (Krupp and Von Frentz) and the conservative families (Welser and Fugger) refutes the arguments for universal represenation on the basis that such system would lead to anarchy and collapse of the Mittelamerikan state if everyone was allowed to vote. And that there is a reason why not even democracies let their poor citizens vote. A voice which has resonated well in the more conservative and reactionary voting families. However a voice which has been seen as unpopular in the lower classes.

The conservative families further believes that the independence debate is bad for Mittelamerika, and is something we should not take part in. "This debate is tearing Mittelamerika apart day after day, and are worsening our relations with the crown. If we lay down our war hatches on both sides and cooperate to improve life on the homefront, we will be much better of cooperating than arguing if we should be independent or not.

Both liberals and reactionaries have criticised the government for not taking any sides. One Senator said "When you go into detail and examine what the Fugger and Welser senators are saying. You realise that they are not saying anything at all! You can not simply be neutral in this debate, either you are pro empire or pro independence. There is no way to sugar coat this or to tip toe around the issue. Your voters demand answers! Answers which my family and the Krupp family has been giving our voters since day one!"

The Krupp and Von Frentz family has been supporters of staying with the Empire for a long time and they believe that it is best for Mittelamerika to stay loyal to the crown in every case possible. They explain that independence will throw us in an uncertain future, and that if the pro independence movement get through their will, all ties with Europe will be cut and Anarchy will ensue because everyone will get to vote. They have branded the Steiner and Gossler familes as "Populists" and mocked them by saying "If every free man gets to vote in Mittelamerika. What's next? Will natives be considered civilized and be given rights?!" Followed by laughter by even the conservative families.

Despite the conservatives pleads to stay neutral in this conflict, more and more people are taking sides and many people believe that if no action is taken to prevent this, the debate will soon turn violent.

Independence Movement +35%
Pro Empire Movement +25%
Pro Empire Movement recieves more members over the current growth rate this cycle
Conservative families loose support in the Bundesrat
Abolitionist movement gets negative growth from now on (There are more pressing issues than the rights of slaves)

Krupp invests in Mittelamerikan industries

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- The prominent entrepreneur "Albert Krupp" are currently seeking to expand his industrial empire by investing heavily in the new project, known as "Krupps Allgemeine Industriegebiet".

Are you unemployed? Are you not gaining enough of a livelyhood on your family farm? Then move to Karlsburg, is what is being said by the employers of the first industrial district of Mittelamerika. This ambitious project are rumored to have a budget of close to 19,000,000 Thalers and has the potential of revolutionising production in Mittelamerika and are expected to create jobs for thousands.

Albert Krupp was so kind as to let us visit his Mansion in the countryside of Geldland for an interview. It was revealed to us that he expected the industrial output of Mittelamerika to increase by 10% once this district is built. When we asked him if this will be his crowning achievement in his industrial empire. To which he responded;

"No, ofcourse not. I plan to expand the horizons of Krupp and Mittelamerika tremendously. This current district will mostly hold textile factories and lumberyards. We can not simply stay there, I plan to expand these as more labour force becomes available. We are currently planning to extract the mineral resources of South America and ship them to this district, where we will build various processing plants for the minerals. From there I believe it will only snowball forward for my family."

Krupp family is becomming more popular in the lower classes. However the artisans are beginning to despise the Krupp family for putting them out of a job.

Mittelamerika launches the first observatory of the Americas

May 1808

An Artists impression of the new observatory

Neu Lübeck | Mittelamerika -- Mittelamerika makes history as the first observatory of the Americas is being constructed in Neu Lübeck.

Earlier this week, the Krupp engineering bureu announced a contract authorized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Education. A contract which seeks to establish the first Astronomical Observatory in the Americas.

Not only is this observatory special because of being the first of its kind. It is also very advanced compared to other observatories in the world. Inside the observatory there will be a very large and very expensive telescope. According to official sources, this telescope will be a reflecting telescope with an diameter of almost 122 centimeters, and a focal length of more than 12 meters. While not being the only telescope in the observatory, many people agree that this is the most impressive telescope present.

Günther Von Frentz, a renowned astronomer in Mittelamerika are "delighted" that the government is taking steps to promoting science through Astronomy. He hopes to make significant discoveries with the various tools and equipment present in this state of the art national observatory.

Meanwhile the Federal Minister of Education of Research, has revealed that this is the first of many investments to promote science in Mittelamerika. "Mittelamerika shall be known as the center of science of all the civilized world." he said during a brief interview.

This is surely an exciting time to be living through. A time of change, as more people move to the cities to work in the factories, as more universities are built, and scientists whom pushes the boundaries of science to levels we never thought possible every few years. We here, writing the science articles are glad that Mittelamerika are joining the race to promote the knowledge of Humankind.

A Reactionary coallition secures the majority in the Bundesrat

November 1810

Die Kolonie Hogarth%20election2-thumb-300x235-6450
A countryside municipal building holding the local elections

Karlsburg | Mittelamerika -- The Von Frentz and Krupp family made history yesterday, after they secured the majority in the Bundesrat. Something which has not been popular by the lower class populations.

The Von Frentz and Krupp coallition secured a majority in the Bundesrat yesterday, and formally ended the nearly seven decade long rule by the conservative families. Their campaign slogans were "Homeland, Military, Strenght!" with reffers to their aim to make Mittelamerika great by expanding its Metal resources, expanding its military, reconcile their relations with the HRE and the church. They have also announced their aim to erradicate the independence movement from popular politics.

This has not gone well in the liberal circles of Mittelamerika, with the Steiner family warning the rich elite of Mittelamerika that the reactonaries will ruin everything Mittelamerika stands for. Something which Albert Krupp, our new Minister of Finance has brushed off as "Liberal scaremongering"

The Steiner family continues by declaring that the lower classes supports the liberal agenda with the abolishment of slavery, the establishment of a lower house where politicians who represent the masses are being present and that greater steps should be taken to withdraw from the HRE.

And while it is true that the Gossler and Steiner family are having popular support from the masses. However, according to the Krupp and Von Frentz, this is "irrelevant" and that the lower classes are too uneducated to be allowed to vote. "They simply don't know what is best for them..."

Rumors has been circulating in the countryside that the liberals has been given aid in terms of weapons and perhaps financing from a third party, and that they are organising for the second Mittelamerikan civil war. A war that could see the abolishment of slavery and perhaps the separation of Mittelamerika from the HRE or have its autonomy greatly increased if the rebels succeed.

While these rumors are not confirmed, the Mittelamerikan Federal Police are "looking into the issue."

More of the Lower classes supports more liberal politics due to them promising personal political and social freedom.
More landowners are taking the reactionary side in politics due to their slave holdings are being threatened.

Loyalist Movement + 70%
