Global Positioning Orbital Satellite System (GloPOSS)

With the upcoming launch of a SCEAVER from Vertuno Space Center carrying the first plane of GloPOSS satellites into orbit, it is time to announce our intentions with GloPOSS.

GloPOSS, or the Global Positioning Orbital Satellite System, will be a network of at least 24 satellites to provide positioning data for receivers of the satellite signals on the ground, in the air, or even in LKO. It triangulates the user's position based on delay from signals sent to the satellite.

The network consists of four planes of six satellites in semi-sync at an inclination of 45 degrees. This gives global coverage with a minimum of four satellites overhead at once, providing more than the required minimum of satellites to triangulate a signal. Future missions may be launched to replace non-functioning satellites or to put on-orbit spares into semi-sync with the capability of adjusting into the proper slot to replace a dead satellite.

GloPOSS is an extremely useful network in that can provide positioning solutions for the civilian market, which will only expand as computers advance, but also for military purposes, giving units an accurate location on a map, telling a pilot where he is and where the target is, and possibly guiding munitions to a stationary target in the future.

As such, public access will be opened to GloPOSS with a national license. It will cost 2 megakerbits per cycle to maintain a military-grade license to connect to the higher-accuracy parts of the system that include velocity limiters. GloPOSS licenses can be terminated by the GloPOSS owners (The Glorious Empire of Fisnavavaada) in the case of war, but first the owners are required to give sufficient notice a cycle in advance. GloPOSS may become a multi-national effort in the future, if nations wish to help maintain orbital infrastructure or even increase the density of the network in the future.
