Delta/V's Guide To Roleplaying: Starting a Corporation Empty Delta/V's Guide To Roleplaying: Starting a Corporation

WARNING: This thread is extremely old, and may contain outdated information. Follow the guide at your own caution.

Hello again, everyone! Delta/V here, and I'm back with another tutorial, this time about starting up a corporation. Corporations are the life of capitalism; neither exists without the other, and as such corporations are going to be very important to most nations.

Step One: Get an idea
First things first: Take a look around the corporations section, found here. Take a look around at the list of corps; do you see anything that sticks out? Maybe there are ten companies all making planes, but no one producing oil. Maybe several corps are selling satellites, and none are making computers.

What you want to do in most cases is find something that isn't being produced but will be highly needed, either now or in the future. If everyone needs raw metals and can only buy them from the Kortugans, start a mining business and sell it to them for lower prices. Create a supply to provide to the demand. Everyone wants to build a military vehicle company, but maybe no-one's realized that all those vehicles are going to need fuel. So find what people are going to need, and come up with an idea for a corporation based around that.

Step Two: Make a thread
There aren't many strict rules for creating a corporation; basically, it comes down to starting a thread, stating who you are and what you supply, and getting to work actually supplying that thing, whether it's iron or oil or solar panels.

The first thing you want in a thread is a name. It should be short and simple in most cases, and state what you supply. "Lunus Naval Supply Co.", "Revelation Probes and Satellites", "JebTech Rocket Design". Something like that. This name should be shown both in the title of your thread and at the beginning of the thread itself.

After that, you want to type some sort of introduction, stating who you are and what you supply. Using the "JebTech Rocket Design" example above, you might do something like this:

Quote:

"Hello, and welcome to JebTech! Here, we strive to provide high-quality rockets for your company or nation's use."

Next, you'll want to state your products. Logically this would remain empty until you actually build the products, but most of the time it's okay to put them up, so long as you're actually going to build them and don't sell them until you do.

Step Three: Making a project page
So you've got your corporation's main page set up. "But Jeb," you may be asking at this point (but probably aren't), "How do I start actually building my rockets / spaceplanes / oil platforms / mines?" The answer is simple: A project page.

A project page is very similar to a normal project started by a nation, but this page usually encompasses all projects begun by that corporation. It might be titled something like "JebTech Rocket Supply Research and Development" or "Lunus Naval Supply R&D", and would essentially act as a hub for the development and creation of all your products. It would look similar to a nation's project thread, with a simple introduction ("This is the research and development page for JebTech Rocket Design" will suffice), a list of the projects underway, and a list of both completed and planned projects (Optional, but highly recommended). You may also want to include a link back to your corporation's main page.

Projects are largely the same between a corporation and a nation. Corporations have the same 100 PP cap, so you can't build more stuff if you're already using all 100 of that PP. Each PP point also costs you 0.5 MK, so a 100 PP project will cost you 50 MK.

Step Four: Get to work!
Okay, so now you've got a corporation with a main page, and a project page. Now it's time to build your products and sell them, and hopefully make a profit! Running a corporation is really fun to do in this kind of RP, whether you do it alongside a nation or do the corporation alone. The sky is the limit when it comes to corporations, so get out there and get to work!

---

And there you have it. Hopefully this guide has helped you in some way with setting up or running a corporation. If you're interested in starting up a nation, be sure to check out my tutorial here.
