Merchant republic — Grand Princes are elected from the heads of the most prestigious families by the people and rule until death, advised by a Council made up of the non-elected families' heads. When the Grand Prince dies, a new one is elected.
Kortugan slavery is somewhat commodious among the higher classes, where captured Kortugans as well as the descendants of those made prisoners in the Great Kortugan War serve mostly as servants to the wealthy. There is quite a bit of money to be made raiding the Kortugan coasts for prisoners, though few among the middle and lower classes can afford them.

History:
The history of the Merchant Republic of Ienecia is a long and varied one, dating back to the settlement of the area surrounding the Veiid several thousand years ago. While most of those around the sea were largely nomadic, eventually camps became settlements, settlements became villages, villages became towns and towns grouped into large city-states to better defend against Kortugan raids.
After much of the southern coast of the Veiid had united into these city-states, petty squabbles and skirmishes became the norm, and these squabbles resulted in better military tactics and technology. Eventually, growing tensions boiled over into what is now known as the Veiidic War — the city-states were split between east and west in a war that would span fifty years.
On the conclusion of the war, the confederation of eastern city-states conquered the west, and a united nation of city-states was briefly formed, known today as the Kratorios Ienecaeos. This country made great leaps of expansion eastwards, conquering the scattered Kortugan tribes, before collapsing to decadence and dictatorship. Following the collapse, many of the remaining city-states established rule by the aristocracy.
The Kortugans, having been subjugated for quite some time by the Kratorios, retaliated swiftly in briefly uniting against the now-squabbling city-states. Initial attacks resulted in huge losses and the razing of many of the eastern cities and began what is now known as the Great Kortugan War.
Following the destruction of the eastern states, those remaining allied themselves with one another once again agains the Kortugan threat. The Great Kortugan War raged for a good hundred years of on-and-off fighting before both sides were exhausted. The city-states of the peninsula and island of the Veiid — the western city-states had been destroyed — were quick to use the tiring Kortugans to their advantage, erecting a huge wall that blocked the peninsula from the mainland and kept the Kortugans out.
After most of the fighting had calmed, the nation-states of the peninsula and island formed into the briefly-lived First Republic of Ienecia. This Republic functioned on strict direct democracy, but the aristocracy in large part did not support it. As a result, with the Wall still technically under siege by Kortugans, the lack of support from the merchants necessary for importing food resulted in the fizzling-out of the First Republic.
The Second Republic of Ienecia, known today simply as the Merchant Republic of Ienecia, is what has lived on to be the modern-day country. Instead of direct democracy, the people of the nation elected leaders to rule for life from amongst the most prestigious and wealthy families of each city-state, and those families not elected served as advisors and council-members to the elected Grand Prince. This government gained the support of almost all of the wealthy, and as a result trade began to flow throughout the nation and surrounding countries.
Trade became rather important, it turned out, as Ienecia was quickly compelled to become a largely maritime civilization — after all, they were (and are) still technically in a state of war with the surrounding Kortugans. As such, naval advances were quickly made to protect the nation and allow for the shipping in of food and supplies not manufactured or grown in Ienecia. The aristocracy was increasingly split into two sections — those who were rich from the merchant trade, and those who were rich because their long-gone descendants had ruled over the ancient city-states. These two groups resulted in a large amount of squabbling over what was most vital to the nation.
As industrial advancement hit the country these issues were made even more prominent, and focused on one thing in particular — the institution of Kortugan slavery. The merchant aristocracy, who also tended to own the factories and were largely congregated in the island cities, were against Kortugan slavery — it soured trade relations and slaves were mostly too expensive to be profitable working in factories. The “true” aristocracy, however, were greatly in favor of Kortugan slavery: After all, they argued, we were still at war with the Kortugans, and the Kortugans had started that war, and so they must be punished. The fact that Kortugan slaves made up a large portion of the nation’s servants and cooks also contributed to their necessity in the eyes of the non-merchant aristocracy.
These differences split the nation briefly in the Doulos Polemos, or slave war, that pitted the island merchants against the peninsular aristocrats. Things were shaping up for another of the long and bloody wars that had defined the region when organized Kortugan attacks on both sides were made. Seriously at risk of the complete collapse of the area, the two sides banded together once more and fought the Kortugans back to armistice. For now, at least, the issue of slavery was put to rest.
And so the nation entered the modern era, marked by continued advancement in technology and a tenuous peace among the aristocrats, as well as growing unrest among the non-wealthy. Will a new era of prosperity be ushered in, or will the country be collapsed by its weaknesses and destroyed by its enemies?

While the nation is ostensibly capitalist, class divisions are wide and it is largely unheard of for anyone to become richer or poorer than they are born.

Church of the Guardian is the only religion in Loth'al which worships a deity named the Guardian who created Kerbin and the heavens and who watches over the kerbals to protect them from dangers, lead them to enlightenment and progress kerbalkind forwards. It is believed that he can and have taken control of kerbals throughout history to lead them forward and help kerbal kind out from dangers and poverty.
History:
Not much is known about the first settlers in the region, but archeological evidence suggest that it was hunters and gatherers comming from the south who were the first settlers 25 000 years ago. They were most likely following the herds northwards and lived in smaller family settlements in tepees as they followed the animals. The women would collect the many berries that exist in the region, while the men would hunt larger animals, and have the loot shared through the community. Battle-axes and spears found in graves from this period suggests that weapons was a power symbol and may hint at a belief in the afterlife. While the language of these people is unknown, many scholars suggest that they were speaking an ancient form of kortugan in these smaller tribes.
The first traces of the neolithic revolution appears 10 000 years ago, evidence several cereal grasses aswell as evidence of cultivation of berries are found in paintings and settlements around the region. It is uncertain if this revolution came from kortugan traders (unlikely according to most experts) or if it started independently here by accident. The smaller family settlements grew dramatically during this period, and archeological evidence suggest that these people started to construct Longhouses out of logs and grasses which marked the start of the first permanent dwellings. Art and graves also suggest that the first skirmishes started during this time period between different tribes and settlements for unknown reasons, but most likely in interest to get more food from the other tribe. However it is important to point out that these people wasn't necessarily barbarians or warlike, they in most cases traded between each other and convened in diplomatic gatherings called "Lothocs" where village elders would convene on disputes and sometimes make sacrifices to the gods. We know that wars was uncommon due to the lack of walls or pallisads during this time period, which suggest there was no need to make expensive fortifications.
It is not untill 1 600 years ago that we see a big progess from these societies. More and more evidence of a written language appears during this time period, and wanderers can even today see stones with figures and what appears to be letters on them. These stones were erected for religious purposes, but also to depict more historical events. For example, we can read on these stones description of a merchant trading a fortune of faked luxuries to a poor tribe in the east. If the bluff was ever discovered remains a mystery to this date. Descriptions of a big military victory in the battle of Knosic 1485 years ago can also be seen on the famous Knosic stone. It is also at this point in time that the first recognized kingdoms appears in the late bronze age instead of tribes together with the Loth'al calendar.
About 1 300 years ago what is now known as Loth'al entered the middle ages. While many people recognize the middle ages as an period of feudalism and sefdom together with petty wars, this wasn't necessarily the case. Serfdom and feudalism was never introduced into neither of the nine Loth'al kingdoms. However, war prisoners and criminals were known to be punished by enslavement and unlawfullness where one could do anything they wanted to them. While wars were more common than before, they never took the same effect as the time period suggest, this was a time of religious enlightenment and astronomy. The first texts mentioning the Guardian appears 1 295 years ago in western Loth'al written by the astronomer Kladelic in his book "The eye of the guardian" who mentions the observations of a star constellation that resembles an eye. He later changed his lifestyle after his years of alleged enlightenment by the guardian, the diety and defender of the Loth'al people. This religion quickly took root throughout the kingdoms, and we can see evidence in litterature, art and even ruins from monasteries that religion was even this early important for the Loth'alic peoples and remains so to this date. Many traces from this period still exist with the many old monasteries covering the lands, the preaching priests and the established and powerful clergy in the lands where common kerbs and kings all have to adhere to, even the unified Loth'alic flag contains symbols of the guardian together with many monuments throughout the lands.
As Loth'al entered the age of the renaissance, the concept of Pan-Loth'alicism started emerging. Scholars, princes, and farmers from the various kingdoms all dreamed of a Loth'al under a unified banner. A Loth'al without wars and as a unified people. What is necessary to understand is that while the kingdoms had and still have some some cultural difference, they are still viewed as essentially the same people speaking the same language, praying to the same god, eating the same food and painting the same pictures. However it was not as simple as to hold a refferendum and unify the lands. While everyone wanted a unified land, they wanted it under their own banner with their own king in the lead. This lead to the time period which the Loth'alic people reffers to the dark ages, which would span a two hundered and fifty years period of large scale conflicts between the many kingdoms. After countless of wars and many thousands slain on the battlefields and in sieges on victor had emerged King Urd Matleq the first of Restu'c had finally annexed the last territories 190 years ago.
The wars had been many and the wars had been bloody, which one could clearly tell on the labour market. Countless workers had perished in the battles, and the capitalist class saw the need for labour saving invetions if the economy was to progress onwards. According to the legend the physicist and engineer Osq'ic Norlan during a cold autum night while observing the eye of the guardian finally cracked the idea that he had been pondering on for so long. He prayed to the guardian thanking for his enlightenment, then directly after went to work the first steam engine in Loth'al. This rapidly lead to the industrial revolution in Loth'al and brought an age of prosperity in the region which is reffered to the Loth'alic golden age which still persists to this date. It is an age of abundance in food, industrial goods, art, religion and scientific advancement. During this period King Urd Matleq the first also recognized the problem with his annexation of the Loth'alic lands. Only the people of his originating kingdom viewed him as the legitimate power of Loth'al. He had stomped down the cultural differences of the kingdoms and proclaimed him as the divine rule of the civilized world. However the kings and noble families of the other regions had been executed, so there was no way to bring regional power to local landlords, but the conquered peoples still wanted more say in politics as they felt it only benefited the Restu'c region.
This lead to the more democratic reforms in Loth'al which are still in place today. A parliament has been formed with representatives from all the regions are choosen by the people to accept laws proposed by the king. These reforms were widely accepted and the first political parties were formed during this era some of which still has survived to this date.
Today the Kingdom of Loth'al stands proudly on its lands. Completely oblivious to the fact that there is a civilized world outside of Loth'al. It's people are happier than ever due to some social and democratic reforms, more freedom of speech, the sense of nationalistic pride and better living conditions brought by the unification and industrialisation. Will King Urd Matleq the second the divine leader of the people, together with the aristocracy and the clergy lead the people to greatness? Only time will tell...

- The SN features a relatively short history. Not much is known about the early history of the people, but what is known is that hundreds of years ago a now long lost civilization colonized the area we call Seyran today. For some unknown reason contact with this colonizer was lost, and Seyran had a huge crisis. The already large companies formed a council to rule the country. This council was largely recognized as the leaders of the Seyran people. This was the birth of the SN.
The SN became a very trade focused nation. They kept good relations with other nations a high priority, unless they were threatening profit of course. The nation has kept its stability well trough the ages, and public support is still high. Lately some welfare laws were passed, but nothing major.
The SN ethnicically more resemble people from down south then their neighboors, possible due to their past nature as a colony. There are no difference in natives and colonizers, as they have pretty much assimilated.

Ammarism was the founding tenet of Nandosata and Tantosata, but split off into Nan-Ammarism and Tan-Ammarism. Ammarism is a Polythiestic religion, hardly practiced today but follows the worship of 3 sets of gods. Those of Water & Thunder, Fire & Kerbinquakes and that of Air & Hurricanes. In each set, there is one god who rules over the others, another who upholds the good of that set, and another who upholds the evil to create a balance. For example, in Water would be The god of Tides, Balance. The God of Thunder, Evil. The God of Life, Good. The god Ammar rules over all 3 sets. The only difference between Nan-Ammarism and Tan-Ammarism is that the gods are named slightly differently except Ammar. But neither wants to admit that, would they?

RP start-~2,000 Unification of kingdoms of Grivska and Gabrili-become rival trading nations.
RP start -~400 Sevonje starts to form outposts in Njegošlja.
RP start -200~Grivska starts establishing trade outposts and settlements in Cele [the eastern colony bit].
RP start -156 After normalisation of relations and a great increase in pan-nationalist sentiment, Grivska and Gabrili unite to form the Kutan Empire.
RP start -120 War starts with Aviliyu over the importation of harmful narcotics produced in Cele. Aviluyun naval forces are crushed, and Aviliyu is forced to sign over the harbour or Betata as part of the peace treaty.

A timeline format, because I'm bored of doing all these history textbook style things.
-2000 - Nomadic fisherman are united under the banner of the Sjorehningi warlord Fen Loh.
-1900 - The Sjorehningi Riki has at this point been declared. Tribes to the east are conquered, archery used to great effect by the Sjorehningi.
-1800 - Further expansion to the north, south and east by warlord Ran Zi
-1700 - Around one quarter of modern empire conquered. Enzalehgaztahbaz declared capital. Middle of the century sees a great storm, destroying many fishing towns along the coast and causing a great famine. Unrest spreads in the new capital, and the warlord is overthrown. The military siezes control with popular support.
-1600 - Famine long finished. The Military Council, the Hehradsintz, exerts control over eastern tribes, reasserting the dominance lost in the rebellion. Further expansion.
-1300 - Advances in infratructre and technology allow for further expansion of the empire. All tribes in the empire's borders now swear fealty to the Hehradsintz. Agricultural revolution in the past centuries has turned a large amount of the Sjorehningi Basin into farmland. With no neighbours of equal power, the empire flourishes.
-1000 - Hehradsintz, willing to fund exploration due to the empire's wealth, funds expeditions across the western ocean. Contact made with other large nations. Tradition of raiding begins.
-700 - Gunpowder technology used to great effect in the raiding of coastal settlements to the west. Wealth floods the empire. By this time, advances in infratructure and agriculture have allowed the empire to expand to its modern borders.
-500 - With the era of colonisation by the westerners, rich trade vessels cross the western ocean often. Raiding becomes less profitable, piracy becomes moreso. Piracy now becomes common. The Hehradzintz funds a vast naval force in fear of retaliation by the growing empires of the west.
-400 - By this time, piracy had also ceased to become profitable due to the increased naval power of the westerners. Noting the vastly increasing power of the western empires and fearing a coalition against the Sjorehningi Riki, the Hehradzintz orders the cessation of the piracy of foreign vessels. Minor unrest, but the economy is still strong due to the vast surplus of food.
-200 - Trading links with western nations are established by this time, a new policy of seeking better relations with the foreigners is established and continued.
-130 - Industrial revolution
-115 - Following the policy of peaceful trade set nearly a century ago, the Sjorehningi Riki joins the Congress of Nations.
-WHENEVER WARRIOR'S NATION GOT FORMED - Clashes begin with a colonial empire expanding southwards from the northern tundra. The policy of trade with the westerners is declared by the Hehradsintz to not apply to the northern scum.

- RP start-1600: The tribes of the Belenosian people are unified to counter the menace of the raids carried by the desert nomadic people.
RP start-1250: After a centuries long fight, the desert nomads are finally tamed and absorbed by the Belenosians. To this date, little is known of the nomadic culture before the assimilation.
RP start-1000: The Belenosian nation breaks up because of internal tensions between the old tribal families. A civil war erupts.
RP start-850: The lowest point of the Belenosian civilization. 150 years of continuous war have taken their toll on the once flowering civilization. Plagues hit the population, and trade and communications are virtually stopped. Many believe that the end of the world is arrived.
RP start-600: After a long recovery, driven by the cultural centres represented by the religious centres, the Belenosians start resembling a civilized people once again. The Belenosian city states start unifying in a number of countys and little confederations.
RP start-[whenever hellorp and mobius feel fine with] The trade with the nations in the 'Ile du Meridiunne is started by some intraprendent merchants. First continuous contacts with the external world.

RP start-[whenever hellorp and mobius feel fine with] After some hints that trade is not all what {hellorp and mobius nations} want, the cities form the Alèansa Belenusian. The foreigners decide that colonization might be a little more difficult than expected, and decide to keep what concessions they already have. The islands of Lampiun and Luminnaia are from now on under their rule.
RP start-400: Sevonjan explorer Nikola Njegoš disembarks on the unhabited island of Gallinara, and claims it in the name of his King.
RP start-394: After 6 years of travels in the Belenosian lands, Njegoš receives from the King the order to have the natives pledge allegiance to him. using his knowledge of the Belenosian culture and the seemingly infinite amount of money at his disposal, he starts another civil war between the Belenosians. Then, with the intervention of the Sevonjan army, the area is pacified, put under the direct rule of the King, and renamed Njegošlja, as a recognition of the explorer feats.
RP start-150: At this date, one sixth of the Njegošljan population is of Katunian ethnicity.
RP start-120: A contingent of Njegošljan volunteers sees action in Ailiyu. After the war, they receive the official colours from the Emperor, forming the Vojska Njegošlja, the first step towards self governance.
RP start-81: The Emperor gives Njegošlja self governance rights. The Katunian minority has now the right to decide for their own destiny, while the Belenosians are forcibly excluded from the politics.
RP start-72: The ship Novi Kovač reaches the southern ice shelf and sets up a temporary base, that will in future become the Malo Njegošlja Southern Polar Research Centre.
RP start-68: Belenosian rebels start a nationwide revolt against the Katunian elite: while at first succesful, the revolt is swiftly crushed by the highly trained Vojska Njegošlja, and the rebels are either executed or exiled. The northern desert becomes the home of the remaining rebels, the Partisanni du Belenosia.
RP start-46: To bolster the numbers of the Vojska Njegošlja, the General Governor institutes the Legija Stranaca, accepting recruits from all over the world.

After more than three centuries of life "on the frontier" some aspects of the cult have changed in Njegošlja, especially regarding the more rigid conformist aspects.
The Belenosians profess largely the cult of Belenos, so ancient to give the name to the whole population. The god, mithical representation of Kerbol, is venerated as a benevolent entity, protecting the people and bringing fertility to the land. An intimately pacifist religion, it surely helped the Kutans in their domination of the country.

Theyre all being observed by the Szlachcic, and all their actions can be set to a vote by the council of 100. The entire 104 people are elected by the people of the nation. - RP start - ~2000: The first reports of the Keshob culture.
RP start - ~1400: First major city in the region, Kekó, is founded.
RP start - ~600: More and more cities are founded. Some colonies are also established just ever so slightly north of Kekó.
RP start - ~500: Kekó Keshobo Kralica is created, as the first ever highly organized nation in the region. Also colonies just south of Kekó are founded.
RP start - 302: A revolt in one of the cities, Sztop, outbreaks. The burghers are tired of ruthless city taxation and insane mercantilist policies.
RP start - 302,5: The battle of Sztop occurs. The massive, completely outnumbering the enemy army of Kralica attack a very small revolter army. However due to extreme unluckiness and great leaders on the other side, the army completely looses and is almost entirely killed.
RP start - 303: The revolt exapnds further, and takes the nearby castle, proclaiming the complete controll of the province.
RP start - 304: A lot of other cities join the revolution and revolt too. They dont plan on cooperating after independent in future however.
RP start - 306: The Kralica, completely outnumbered, with its economy drowning deep, and loosing mroe and more battles and sieges, finally surrenders to the demands of the cities.
RP start - 306,5: The treaty is settled, and all the cities, together with a lot of nerby territory become independent.
RP start - 290: Due to unknown reasons, most possibly kortugan raids, the nation of Kekó Keshobo Kralica is forfeit and abandoned.
RP start - 289-280: The cities claim the forbidden lands, and build more cities around the old castles.
RP start - 270: Trade of Kolus is being dominated by the city states, most notably Sztop.
RP start - 261: A newly elected doge of a city called Holt proposes to joni into a league, to counter the growing trade competition of the ever bigger nearby nations.
RP start - 250: Finally, after a lot of setting up and arguing, the league of "Most Serene United Free and Independent Keshob Trade City-States" is founded. MSUKFTCS. Its commonly called Keshob Cities, or Mesukufutcks, from its abbreviation.
RP start - 200: The Keshob Cities develops its current government, the so called "Mestokralnia Zagrodna Czworpodzialna Rząddrużyna"
RP start - 107: The League, due to reaching certain advancement reaches, starts colonizing nearby regions. The only one that survived was the region of Asztó.
RP start - 65: The nation of [JAYDEE] was negotiated with to get a trading harbor in their lands.
RP start - 32: The nation of [AMODII] was also negotiated with to get trading harbors, this time 3. They sweared to protect the cities, and in exchange they will get a percentage of profit from them.
