Changes to the GM System

Post by Charzy on Mon Dec 29, 2014 12:54 pm

So basically the mod team's been talking and Mystic's suggestion is going to happen and below you can find exactly what changes are being made. You have until 12:00 01/01/15 GMT to do everything you want to to fix your armies.
The gist of it is basically that everything is deployed all the time.

Also, there's no MP cap and the only limit to your army's size is how much you're willing to pay in maintenance for it.
For national foci, military will now have reduced maintenance for units and both economic and industrial will have increased maintenance for units (Instead of increased MP and decreased MP, respectively).

Again, all of these changes take effect at 12:00 01/01/15 GMT.

Spoiler:

Every military unit that your nation has costs MP, or Military Points. The MP cost for each unit is detailed far below in the list of units.

Paying For Them
Of course, you also have to pay money for these units.
When your units are at home, and not fighting, they cost 0.25MK per MP to maintain. If you can't pay, you'll have to fire some of them!
When they are fighting or are outside your lands, they cost 0.5MK per MP to maintain, because they're actually doing something and need more equipment and supplies.

There's an exception to this, though. If you want to station your units in a friendly country, you can build military bases there. Each military base will allow 20MP worth of units to stay there as if it were home territory and will cost half maintenance when not fighting.

Making More of Them
Each unit costs 2PP per MP to produce. In peacetime, you can build as many as you want at once. However, in war, your production slows down and you can only produce one unit at a time (this is because we don't want giant armies popping up in the middle of battles).
As well as costing 2PP, every single unit takes 2000 from your population cap and your total population.

In effect, every unit is made up of 2000 people in all (engineers, soldiers, logistics) who don't pay tax or contribute to your PP.

Because every unit now takes up 2000 of your population, this means that for focuses not affecting maintenance or tax income, each additionally used unit of MP costs 0.1MK in reduced taxes income.

Only problem is City Garrisons do nothing, as discovered in the chat.

EDIT: Does this mean we can re-spawn our army?

Feel free to take a refund on any you've built this RP, but aside from that they're pretty much useless now. They'll probably be removed once this new system is put in place.

Do we get to respawn our armies?

So uh, no MP cap, that's great. However, you basically took away a bunch of income from us..so now we have less money to actually use on other things if we actually want a decent sized defensive force.

But we also gave you a bunch of income with trade, so it's balanced out. In fact, if you maintain a reasonable (100MP or so) army and don't go to war, you'll still be earning more than before we added trade.

That's nonsense! Having to choose from doing stuff or having a powerful military? What are we doing here, running a nation?

We didn't have trade before?
