Southern Polar Territories Administration and Research Department
Welcome!
We are the SPTARD (Kutan: Južna Polar Teritorije Poslove i Odjeljenje za Istraživanje), the office tasked with the administration of the activities in the Njegošljan antartic territories. Our goals are to provide the Njegošljan citizens working in the polar bases and settlement with the services and comforts they might find in Novi Kovač, and to coordinate the netional research efforts in the area.
The history of SPTARD has its roots in the expedition of the ship "Novi Kovač" in 143, that set the first temporary camp on the southern ice shelf. On the same site stands now the Malo Njegošlja Southern Polar Research Centre, housing 214 researchers, assuring a continuative kerbal presence for the whole year. Another 5 seasonal bases are located in the Southern Polar Territories, with a total capability of other 500 researchers and scientists at peak presence.
Here multiple research fields are investigated: meteorology, high atmosphere studies, climatology and, obviously, the same southern polar ice shelf. While unauthorized access to the area is prohibited, to help enviromental preservervation, requests for partecipating in expeditions are accepted, after evaluation by the Polar Researches Committe.
