Minor Landquake at the Sjorehningi-Sangan Border

Post by Charzy on Wed Jan 07, 2015 5:44 pm

Earlier this morning, a small groundquake caused a landslide at the Shield mountains at our border with the Sangan confederation. No casualties have been reported, and the Department of Development assures us that there is no further danger. Reportedly, the groundquake was the result of a weapons program ordered by the Hehradsintz, and more news is expected later this week.

Spoiler:

During the early hours of the morning, a cart is rolled down a disused mine shaft.
By the afternoon, the cart is in place a kilometer below sea level and five kilometers into the mountain. Sensors are set up a hundred meters further back from the cart, and its heavy contents are connected to a set of cables running all the way to the entrance.
A mast is erected at the entrance to the mine, connected to the cables running inside.
By the morning of the next day, the site is clear. For many kilometers there are no people to be seen. In a reinforced bunker filled with displays, five kilometers from the entrance to the mine, a glass cover encloses a large black button and scientists stand around waiting.
A radio in the bunker calls out, "The zone is clear and the package is ready."
One of the scientists rushes over and speaks into it, "Confirmed, the zone is clear and the package is ready. The station is ready."
The radio calls out again, "Confirmed, the station is ready. Observation is ready."
Yet another voice adds to the growing list, "Confirmed, observation is ready. Proceed."

The scientist at the radio looks to the one closest to the button. "Korporall. Out of the way. All is ready."
"Yes, Stadmann." He moves aside, making way for the one at the radio to move to the button.
As he lifts the glass cover, he looks up to the ceiling, his face set in a determined stare.
"And at the end of days the All-Maker will face the army of the damned, and with his mighty hammer's strike the eternal war will be over and all that is and once was will be ended."
With that, he brings his fist down upon the button. The room is silent. A moment later, the scientists rush to their sensors, noting down the readings produced.
Within a few seconds, a low rumble meets their ears, and the Stadmann stares out the window at the mountain, a landslide now falling over the entrance to the mine and covering up the radio mast.

No further danger. What a blatant lie. The seismometer readings indicate this to be no "minor earthquake". The readings show it to some sort of explosive.

We are curious about how large the explosion was recorded as on the Richter scale.

At the site of the blast, approximately 6.1. On the surface, around six kilometers of solid rock above the blast, approximately 3.
