Ienecia Declares End of Great Kortugan War

In a speech today on the stairs of the capital building, the Grand Prince of Ienecia, Aleksander Kerman, gives a speech to the multitude gathered in celebration below.

"My friends, my people, Kerbals of our great Republic, today is to be a great day of celebration! For on this day, a great victory is achieved by our nation and by all of civilization. Today marks the end of a conflict which has engulfed our borders for generations, and which has brought such great toil to our grand country. Today, I hereby announce... The end of the Great Kortugan War!"

Raucous applause fills the streets for a good give minutes before it dies down enough for the Grand Prince to continue speaking.

"Yes, you heard correctly! For the first time in hundreds of years, our nation shall declare a peace, a peace which will last for all time! Rejoice, citizens of our fair Republic, for the barbarians of the coasts have finally been driven from our borders, and our brave soldiers return to their families and their communities!"

More applause erupts, the Grand Prince gives several deep bows, and the speech is over. A week of celebration throughout the entire nation is declared, and there is a great cheer throughout the square.

"Glory to the Republic! Glory to Ienecia!"

Of course, critics argue that this 'victory' in the war is simply a result of a long period of little hostilities, and that the fact that the Merchant Republic has not managed to regain any land lost in the early portions of the War constitutes a loss. Regardless, the people themselves are happy to be at peace, and the Kortugans themselves seem content to drink their rum on the other side of the border without any further conflict.

Ser Corliss Penny gave the clan chief an incredulous look. "Do you want to die, Wull?"

That seemed to amuse the northman. "I want to live forever in a land where summer lasts a thousand years. I want a castle in the clouds where I can look down over the world. I want to be six-and-twenty again. When I was six-and-twenty I could fight all day and fuck all night. What men want does not matter.

"Winter is almost upon us, boy. And winter is death. I would sooner my men die fighting for the Ned's little girl than alone and hungry in the snow, weeping tears that freeze upon their cheeks. No one sings songs of men who die like that. As for me, I am old. This will be my last winter. Let me bathe in Bolton blood before I die. I want to feel it spatter across my face when my axe bites deep into a Bolton skull. I want to lick it off my lips and die with the taste of it on my tongue."
