Zhanitarian Independence Movement

The so called, "Zhanit Peoples Republic" has declared independence from Safenei today. Tensions had been very high between the two cultures in the region, and about a week ago the Zhanit Police Dept. Began beating ethnic Safenians. They proceeded to occupy the government building, and blocking all communication from within. Angry mobs have been clashing in the streets, with only around 31.7% of the region's population being Ethnically Zhanitian, Safenei has been reluctant to grant independence, as the majority of citizens are Safenian. The Safenian military force has much less power in the region, however, and the police have taken advantage of this, declaring independence and fortifying the capital city. Reports have been coming in of horrible treatment of Safenians, such as public beatings, shootings, and rape. The Safenian government and her allies will most likely react harshly. The destroyer SRPS "Ivaaki" has begun shooting at key fortifications in the Zhanitarian defensive line. Bigger guns are needed, however. The destroyer is doing minimal damage.

We would be willing to act as an intermediary between the Safenian government and the Zhanit people wishing for autonomy.

About half of the Zhanits don't even want independence. This is the result of a highly nationalist and Zhanit police force, which we allowed to build up to the point of near militancy. We hoped they'd bring law to the land in the surrounding area, which is currently occupied by bandits and whatnot.. The ethnic minority exuse is simply a façade.

I'm sorry, but we have no reason to believe much of what you just said and many reasons not to. This ethnic minority; which is a minority throughout the entire region, or else an autonomous region would make sense; makes up the entire police force?

The police force is nearly 40% Safenian, which is what puzzles us. It seems this is more of a power grab than a ethnic problem.

The Safenian and Zhanit leaders have declared that the small skirmish of a war is over. Safenians have agreed to lower tariffs in Zhanit, in exchange for maintaining local autonomy.

While the police in charge might have wanted a peace, the 15% that want independence apparently don't. They've stormed the police building, claiming them to the traitors of the Zhanit state! The police fight back, but it's hopeless.... While most of the people want to stay with Safenei, the ones with the weapons do not...

The leader of this new rebel group has begun a radio broadcast:

"Fellow Zhanitians! Come together, and fight the unclean Safenians! We are superior to them in every way! Come, my brothers and sisters, and let us ANNNIHILATE the Safenians in OUR land!"

Shooting and raping of Safenians has begun... Safenei is once again outraged.

Venatoria will send a Special Ops regiment to take these insurgents down, if necessary.

At 7:32AM commander Richard Vaunguart commences artillery bombardment of the heavily fortified trenches in front of the city. The men in the trenches hunker down for the long days ahead.. The Safenians begin their assault on the trenches at 1:00PM, and they succeed in taking the first line at 3:00, with heavy losses. (1 Standard Inf. Regiment). The next trench lines were much easier, with full artillery and support, and also help from the new TAV-14 tank (developed jointly by Safenei and Venatoria), the infantry took the second line easily. Now, as night sets in, the Zhanitian forces fortify for the next assault.

We have no reason to believe what you are saying, and we want to send our own team to gather information on what is actually happening.

Another radio broadcast has come through from the city:

"Safenians! You shall be killed, for you are unclean! All Safenians in the city are now criminals, and will be executed!"

Venatoria offers to send a Special Ops team to protect any investigators Sent by other nations.

Safenian forces have retaken the city, and given tax cuts to it as well. The conflict is over.
