Death of Patriarch of Rome Sebastián II

His Holiness, Patriarch of Rome Sebastián II, passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning.  Having suffered debilitating chest pains in the Conference of Constantinople, the Patriarch spent his last year calmly putting things in order before this death.  Most people believe that his medicus, Lucius, whom also showed his diplomatic prowess, will be elected by the other Pentarchs as his successor.  Lucius in an interview stated, "It is God's will to commemorate such great men like Sebastián.  Should I be elected, I shall build a university in his honor."

The Newest Pentarch: Patriarch Pius VIII

The Newest Patriarch:

Glorious news has arrived from Constantinople, spreading to all corners of our Kingdom.  The successor to the late Patriarch Sebastián II, as decreed by the 4 other pentarchs, shall be the medicus and skilled diplomat that attended the ailing Patriarch in his last years.  His Holiness arrived in Rome, dressed in the Pentarchal Robes and with a new name: Pius VIII.  Parades have occured across the country, celebrating the election of His Holiness.

Clergy envoys sent to the Americas

This week, a ship departed from the Port of Gibraltar, carrying various members of Italian and other European clergy members, embarked for the American Free States. Landing in the Port of Boston, the clergy members were greeted by joyus crowds, performing baptisms and otherwise raising religious moral.  From there, the convoy of clergy will visit other major American cities.
From there, the convoy will embark to the Democratic Federation of the Wyandot, and upon arriving shall aim to spread the word of Jesus Christ to the Indians. Then, they shall embark on the treacherous trek to the little-known Cascadian confederacy, hoping to raise the amount of Christians in the populous and empower spirituality amongst the Christian minority.

New Lands in Africa!

Map of the Colonies:

Today, His Holiness Patriarch of Rome decreed the colonization of a group of exotic islands, roughly 350 miles off the coast of mainland Africa.  In the Holy Decree, these islands were to be named  "New Malta" for there preliminary resemblance to the respective island.  Over 200,000 volunteers enlisted to brave the voyage to these untamed lands, bringing with them the Word of Jesus Christ and the Law of the Pentarchy.
Upon landing on the largest island, an armed expeditionary force searched the island for any Natives, yet none could be found.  The Captain of the Guard, Teodoro Latini, remarked "How uncivilized must those [mainland] savages be, to not venture to an island less than 80 leagues off their coast!".
In the words of La Gazzetta Colonial Expert, Eraldo Montani, "This colony is a promising start in colonalization for His Holiness.  These islands are at a strategic place; both the closest approach to the Americas from the Old World, as well as a stepping stone into Africa, promising a deepening our coffers with the... [slave] trade, and with the spreading Christianity to the pagans of West Africa."

A Formal Apology from the Patriarch

This week, the Pentarchal Seat of Rome released a formal apology.  The pretense were statements by an Italian priest, whom, according to the Mittleamerikan Abolitionist Party, stated belligerent statements regarding the hit topic of slavery.
The letter stated "We feel it nessecary to clarify the intentions of ...our government.  Our mission was to... reinvigorate and revive the tenents of Christianity and cement religious relations between Mittleamerika and Italy. As for the intentions of that statement, our preacher surely... was to offer a spiritual opinion point supported by the Patriarch of Rome, not to widen the divide between the... [liberal] and conservative parties and the Mittleamerikan people and Rome, dispite our different stance with them over the issue of slavery, which should not be interpreted... as an intervention by a European power."
