S.S.A Launches
Today the Sergerlinen Space Administration can happily announce the launch of the Flieger 1 rocket. A space rocket designed to train orbital manouvers in orbit around kerbin. With this enhanced knowledge, we will send a rocket to space next month (1 ooc day)

Re: S.S.A Launches
Thousands of people gathered around the space center as the final preparations for the Reisen 1 mission was made. Live cameras was filming the entire event with milions watching it on live television. Today was truly a great day for our beloved federation. The first Segerlinen launched from a Segerlinen space center was gonna be sent to space. It would also be the first woman into space which excited everybody.
Countless interviews had been made with the pilot the last weeks and Anna Grainheim had become a national hero even before the mission was even launched. Now everyone waits for the moment for the command center to do the count down.

Re: S.S.A Launches
It was a cold night as the launch was being prepared. Despite the cold, many kerbs had still made their way to the space center, all carrying some kind of binocles or watching the live feed on a tv screen. Anna Grainheim had already made her way into the crew capsule and was on constant comms with the command center.
"Reisen 1 to Bardemanstadt command, all systems nominal on my end, ready for countdown over."
"Bardemanstadt command to Reisen 1, roger that, all systems nominal. Proceed with launch protocol, out."
The last engineers and scientists was making their way to a safe location, and the evacuation sirens were ringing through out the area around the launch pad.
"T-20 and counting... 19.... 18.... 10 main engine start.... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2 ignition... 1... Lift off we have lift off! Reisen 1, with Grainheim, the first female in space lifts off!"
The crowd cheers and applauds, while mission control eagerly checks all systems and establishes contact with the communications satellites in orbit.
Inside, Anna could feel the brute force of the main engines that were powering this rocket. Here she were flying on top of essentially a inter continental ballistic missile, on a mission to reach space. As the rocket does its gravity turn she feels the G-powers pressing her down to her chair as the rocket breaks the sound barrier. Below, three million people were eagerly watching what could be her last minutes alive, or her greatest minutes of her life time. The engines cuts at about the 37 KM mark, thus she could move freely with her arms again for the time being. He sends a message to mission control to confirm that she is alive, then prepares for the second burn at the 70 KM apoapsis.
Although she was weightless at this point, she had no time to enjoy that moment. Her time in free fall would be a very limited one. She starts the second burn with the very limited fuel she has left. After the burn, she hears the emergency alarm in the capsule. Her heart freezes as she sees that the parachute somehow got damaged.
"Err... mission control... we got a problem! The MK16 Parachute Module seems to be damaged. If we can't fix this within a few minutes, I will not survive this landing."
"Roger that Reisen 1... We are working on it, continue with standard landing proceedures for now."
"Working on it? I need this fixed right now!"
"Again, we are working on it, now stay calm and we'll get this sorted out!"
The mission control works intensivly on the ground to see what to do. They find out through the data transmitted that one of the cords for the parachute has effectivly been cut while packing. No one knows if this was a design problem or an accident, but never the less the parachute would deploy but fly off and burn upon re-entry. They decided to lie to the pilot to make her feel better, that was the only thing they could do, and pray.
"Reisen 1, the error message itself seems to be a malfunction in the system. You will have to manually deploy the parachute yourself upon landing. It will take you down safely, over!"
"Roger that, starting maunal landing protocols. I will enter the atmosphere in 10 seconds, and will loose contact with you, out!"
The capsule screams through the atmosphere above the sea on the Kyuxan eastern coast. At a 10 KM altitude Grainheim manages to deploy the parachute, but it happened. Everyones nightmare came true. All the cords snapped and the parachute flew away from the capsule and quickly burned up in the atmosphere. The sailors onboard FSS Proletariat could only watch as the capsule screamed into the ocean, making a massive splash.
Recovery teams were sent but the capsule were never found. An official investigation was organised to find the source of the problem.

The Kahlawian Government, the S.E.A.D.D. and the A.S.D.I. chair andvance their condolecences for such a tragic event. We hope that the sacrifice of such a brave kerbalette will be rewarded with future achievements.

Long live socialist engineering indeed. Maybe in better hands this intrepid kerbalette would have survived.

Segerline finds its disgraceful that Narcona has the stomach to make snarky remarks after such a national tragedy. However we are not suprised, since when did you care about civilian lives?

The People's Republic sends our condolences. We will be flying our flags at half-mast.
This is just another piece of evidence that shows you are scum. Perhaps one day you will value the life of someone as more than something to exploit.

A few things:
1. We highly doubt the first Kerbalette in space was a civilian.
2. We find it a tragedy as well. Each Kerbal who perishes on these voyages is a loss for the scientific community.

Well it doesn't matter what you think, that is what makes facts great is that they are not bound by opinion. She was a civilian, but even if she theoretically would have been selected from the airforce or something, our point would remain.

Re: S.S.A Launches
Our two questions:
Why was the first Kerbalette in space a civilian? Wouldn't earlier flight experience required?
We do not seem to understand your logic. Our opinion does not matter, yet your deep hearted distaste for us is factual and not an opinion?

Re: S.S.A Launches
Not only military personel has access to aircraft. She was a former airline pilot, then she flew private jets for high end officials in Segerline and ambassadors. She among many others applied for the manned exploration programme and she passed the tests and was given additional training in military jets and simulators.
Your opinion does not matter when it comes to fact. It doesn't matter if you think she was military or not, that would still not change the fact that she was civilian, was our point.

The CICS sends it's regards toward the brave woman. She helped further the exploration of the next frontier. May she rest in peace.
On a further, more happy note, might we be able to buy the rocket designs? We'd like to help with the discovery of the error, and make our own space exploration possible.

We're not sure our message made it through radio transmissions.. Did it?
