The Church of the Kraken Empty The Church of the Kraken

The Church of the Kraken
Ecclesia Kalamarus

In the beginning, there was the Kraken, and there was the Universe. And the Universe was the Kraken, and the Kraken was the Universe. The Kraken drifted through the void for many eons before growing restless. And so the Kraken reached out with tentacles infinite and struck the emptiness -- and wherever the Kraken touched, matter came to be. And the Kraken looked upon the galaxies and stars and planets that it had built, and was pleased.

Eventually, though, the Kraken grew dissatisfied even with this, knowing that it was the only being to gaze upon the majesties it had created. And so the Kraken roamed through its creation, looking for a suitable place to plant the seed of new life with which it would share the universe. The Kraken finally found itself a planet which fit its specifications -- a jewel which the Kraken named Kerbin. And so the Kraken drifted to the surface of the planet and stuck with its infinite tentacles, molding the planet to be suitable to life. The seas of magma changed to refreshing oceans, and in them the Kraken placed small organisms, which it then molded into all the creatures of the sea. The Kraken then seeded grass on the land, and placed on it vegetation of all kinds -- and then, the Kraken built all the animals of the earth and placed them across the planet. Finally, the Kraken took the most nimble creatures and gave them wings, placing them to soar in the sky.

But the Kraken looked on its creations, and while pleased with its work the Kraken remained unhappy. The simple beasts of the land were too driven by instinct to view the cosmos as the Kraken had intended. And so the Kraken reached to the humble, forgotten grass, and from them molded a new creation -- the Kerbals. And the Kraken imparted on these Kerbals the power of knowledge, and the ambition to desire it, and was happy.

But the Kraken grew weary, and drifted away from the planet. As a parting gift, it granted the most special of the Kerbals the knowledge of its existence, and the power to convince the rest. Fulfilled, the Kraken swam away through the inky darkness to the edge of the Universe, and slept.

The Tenets of the Kraken:
Thou shalt not murder.
Thou shalt not steal or covet any person or possession.
Thou shalt not slander my name.
Thou shalt aspire to be great, and to aim for the stars which hath birthed you.
Thou shalt do good deeds, for to help the worst among you is to be the greatest in the eye of the Kraken.
Thou shalt treat your neighbors and your family with respect.

The Church of the Kraken is an organized monotheistic religion followed by many Kerbals, though membership has recently begun to decline. The chief and only deity is the Kraken, who gives life and watches the actions of the Kerbals, punishing them for wrongdoings. There is no religious head, and the faith is generally a non-practiced one: In general, devotion to the Kraken is shown by doing good deeds, not by attending a church, though some exist.

My hope for this religion is that it'll give everyone a decent organized-but-not-stifling religion to put down on their nation applications, rather than just making one up on the spot and resulting in every country having completely different belief systems.
