In the early morning hours, three aircraft from the 21st Bomber Squadron leave their base on the Towada Islands, heading north towards the ice cap. On board is a 20 kt nuclear bomb, as well as military and civil observers carrying equipment and instruments to measure and photograph the detonation. The aircraft fly for several hours before the ice caps become visible. Approaching their destination, the leading aircraft's bomb bay opens, releasing the bomb. As the aircraft fly several miles away, the bomb detonates with a flash of light, sending a mushroom cloud 10,000 feet into the air. The aircraft then turn south and head back towards Rikuto.
