Terripana Claims New Territory

Atop his balcony, the President of Terripana is ready to address his people. Below, 10,000 people are gathered, as well as a film crew ready to televise the speech to the rest of the world. Out of view of the camera, soldiers force the people to cheer as the President waves. He coughs and begins to talk:

"My people: today is a new age for Terripana. Foreign nations threaten our security with their 'spacecrafts'. Therefore, I now announce that all celestial space above Terripana is now Terripanan territory. This of course does not include the gravitational influence of other planets or their moons, however any nation that crosses our territory must request access, or pay a small fee of 5 Million Kerbits. It will not be long before we too send objects into space!"

What is next, claiming the fabric of time?
We do not recognize this claim.

The Glorious Empire of Fisnavavaada would like the Terripanians to just try to enforce the claim. Meanwhile, until this claim is recanted, we will be running naval exercises off our eastern coast, including live-fire trials.

We ask, what is defined as 'territory'? How deep does it go? How high is national airspace? This is no different. We own this land; it is only right that we own the space above it too.

The I.E.S. is willing to pay that fee. We'll add a receipt strapped to all our future spacecrafts, and we'll pay your claimed money on return of said receipt, collected during passage over Terripanan airspace.

An insignificant claim made by an insignificant country.

If we are so insignificant, then surely you have no problem in paying our fee?

It's not very hard to change your ownership of the land, we suggest if you intend on keeping it that way that you change your stance on this issue.

Our land will always be ours. Our air will always be ours. Our seas will always be ours. And now, our space will always be ours.

We suggest you claim the galaxy next. You can not enforce anything. Without the Kabundkan protection, even a cockroach could conquer you. No one is going the pay the fee, for we doubt you could even enforce a group of playing babies.

Strong words, for a nation that surrendered after a single battle. We suggest you gain the ability to keep what you have before trying to insult others.

We had no military left to fight. They don't even have a military. A riot could over take a nation 10-times their population. Even if the had the biggest military in the world, they could never enforce space as their own.

Is that an argument you really want to be making? You can't enforce your claim to your land territory, as we've so clearly seen. Are we free to violate that?

In fact, we do have a military. If you were not politically inept, then you would have taken note of our national information. Right now, you are no threat to us: the majority of your military died fighting over an island as "insignificant" as ours.

We saw you had a military. You had some children with sticks, a big fishing boat, and a group of paper airplanes. Surely so formidable. The island wasn't too much of a loss, it was just traditional Narconan land. Point is, you can not enforce space. Period. Even if an asteroid was falling straight onto your island, you could not "enforce" it's violation of your "space". Nothing of value would be lost if it hit you, I guess.

Segerline will also add a recipt to our space craft when we start launching rockets from our planned space center.

At least our 'fishing boat' is still here. Last time we checked, your navy was missing 17 vessels.

2 Light Cruisers and 2 Destroyers could still bombard you into oblivion. We are currently going reconstructions as well.

We ask the Narconan ambassador to refrain from further comments. Insulting and menacing a sovereign nation is not accepted, even if the insulting nation is for the moment under Shogunate protection.
