Operation Fire Buddies Empty Operation Fire Buddies

-Test Site Aleph, undisclosed location.

The mountains surround the place. The long and large valley, scattered with bushes and occasional trees, along with charred tanks, half destroyed building and craters, is almost completely deserted. The only people present inside the perimeter of the test range are the ISFR company and the engineers and technicians at the control bunkers. Some high ranking officials are smoking in their long overcoats near the runway, strangely big for a place like that, waiting for their visitors.

As they watch the seemingly near-deserted runway from their aircraft, the Camponjan delegation briefs their mission one last time. Amongst the various officials is the Grand Prophet himself, known to most as William Shreier. He was expecting much for this great event, as both nations would demonstrate one of their classified weapon systems as a mark of trust. "Lets hope this is as good as they promised."

"A-attention!"

As the Camponjan delgation advances through the saluting soldiers, they are welcomed by the army officers and scientists. They are brought in a brief tour of the place, showed a mockup of the Vampire missile, images of opened up Kyuxian navies, and presented with the statistics about its usage. Then, the main show begins.

"As you know" begins a Brigadier General "high precision standoff weaponry is a so called must have in modern warfare. We showed this to the world during the Straits Battle, and the sunken hulls of the Kyuxian carriers testify that we were right in developing this weaponry. Now, let's go." He nods to a technician that speaks briefly in a microphone, and then takes a pair of binoculars.
"Let's say that our recon troops discovered sensible enemy objectives in those bunkers down there. As you can see, there's a strange building between them. Those pesky cowards put their stuff near a kindergaten. How rude." Chuckles from the viewers.
"Anyway, artillery attack are ruled out, and a direct infantry assault will turn to be too costly. What should we do? leave the enemy be? I don't think so. Simply, we phone home, and ask for a couple of birds to be sent." Brief look at his watch.
"Now, please focus your binoculars on the targets. Another advantage of the system is that is incredibly stealth. How can this missile be stealth, you say? Well, you weren't surely expecting this."
Two orange streaks come low from the mountain. Before the brains can fully realize those images, the bunkers explode in a cloud of dust and debris. Then, the sonic boom and the explosion sound reaches the viewers.
"So, astounding, isn't it?"

"Quite so, General" William replies. "Gotta say, that is one damn impressive weapon, and k ow that, even though you just showed us the statistics, we had been watching your successes in the War of the Straits for quite some time. The navy has never been our strongest arm, and such these easy to deploy weapons are of our highest concern. Whats the point in fearing another navy when you have one if those badboys!

Thankfully, we don't fear other navies due to our limited need for naval dominance. Utterly dominating land based warfare... That is where our interest lies."

"Uhm, sir, if I may", a young soldier wearing a cap humorously too large for his head, "I can take it from here. Right. You see, general, our main issue throughout the last few years was limiting our own casualties on the ground, as you see, we prefer operating as a knife through butter over a chainsaw through a log of wood." Small laughs over the absurd analogy can be heard. "Now, how do we accomdate this? A strong support of air power, you see. All that remained now was a weapon that could be used to take out our enemies effectively and in large numbers." William chimes in again. "Indeed, general, while your precision weapons are most impressive, sometimes, more violence is indeed the answer. Sadly, more violence often brings more weight with it, an issue of great concern when limited by the careying capacity of your wings. Thus, we developed this. Look through your binoculars again, general. See those canaries? They're stationed at around 1,000, 600, and 100m from our target, another bunker. The bunker itself is hardened against a blast of up to 50,000 pounds of TNT, and contains an additional canary. Observe"

As William finishes his sentence, a single Camponjan bomber flies overhead, towards the strike zone. Dropping a single bomb, it quickly leaves to where it came from, as the bomb drops from its high altitude.
The bomb hits the strike zone, and a large flash can be seen. Miraculously, the bunker but scratched, although the same cannot be said for the surrounding buildings.

"Lets take a look at those canaries, shall we?"

As the men approach the canaries at 1000, they confirm they're alive. The canaries at 600m are alive... But not well, and as the men reach the closest canaries, they can see the creatures did survive the blast, yet not its effects. Finally, the men open the bunker... And find the canaries surprisingly dead.

"This, general, is the effect of our main nuclear weapon, the Fallen Star, a 15 tonnes tactical fission device. A blast equivalent to a 30,000 pound bomb, with radiation effects killing anything within 100m instantly and everything within 600m near instantly, causing serious damage beyond that range. What do you think?"
