- The Battle:
- Last round, Raxira had succesfully invaded the capital of Gladia, and held it for the entire turn as both sides decided to reshape their plans and thus their future in this war. The coming round would definitely see mistakes and missed opportunities, as both sides sometimes seemed to reside within a balloon of cluelessness on the enemy's position... but enough of the intro. Let's get to it!
In Haiden, the rats finally surfaced... and by that I mean they went underground. You see, Raxira decided to deploy its Special Forced underground, using the subways and sewers of Gladia to their advantage. Meanwhile, the Gladian Infantry was preparing to counter this exactly, by blocking the entrances and perhaps even setting up an ambush here or there. When they reached the entrances, however, they discovered it had been blocked already! Fear struck the regiment, but their leaders restored the calm. The sad fact is, however, that had they not done that, the regiment would have survived! The Raxirans had been setting up explosives near the entrance, you see, and after they saw the large number of infantry heading to their entrance, they pulled back and waited. As they heard the ''kerclunk'' of the manhole being forced, they set their charge, and as a result, 1 Infantry Regiment was blown up! In addition, a giant hole had been blown into the subway system, which the Gladians were quick to exploit, sending in multiple infantry regiments to chase down the Raxirans, which resulted in major skirmishes all throughout the sewer system, as Raxirans hid behind every corner, fingers at the trigger, ready to fire. After more than a day's worth of fighting, this saw the Raxirans lose 2 Special Forces Regiments, and the Gladians lose another 3 Infantry Regiments.
Considering the Gladian numerical superiority, however, this was quite the success in their favour, which they exploited as their remaining infantry infiltrated what had once been their beautiful capital. As they encountered Raxiran defenders, they called in Anti-Infantry Vehicles, which were sometimes effective, but not universally so. For example, during one of the earliest encounters, a firefight between a midsized Gladian and Raxiran group saw these badboys arrive - and promptly get shot down by a nearby anti-tank regiment. The Gladians pushed in with more of their anti-infantry vehicles and managed to take out the regiment, and a few more special forces, but not after losing more of their own vehicles, not to mention supporting infantry! Yup, this conflict was getting bloody, as 2 Anti-Infantry Regiments and 4 Infantry Regiments were added to casualties list on the Gladian side, with the Raxirans in turn losing 1 Anti Tank Regiment and 2 Special Forces Regiments.
When you see these losses you might be wish to say the Raxirans were winning, yet it was clear they were not. They had lost significant territory in the capital due to a lack of troops, and they were fewer in number than their Gladian adversaries. They're lucky Gladia's Armoured Battalians were looking out for tanks, or they might have been pushed out completely.
Meanwhile, thinks at sea were also occurring. The Gladians pushed forward in the attack using a massive air-attack and a not-so-massive sea attack. Wave after wave of aircraft hit the Raxirans ships, which fought back using their own weapons and those of their air coverage. One of the most vicious battles in Kerbin's history followed, as ground attack aircraft dived on missile cruisers, followed by a fighter seeking to shoot down the ground attack, followed by yet another air superiority caring to take out its counterpart, followed by -you guessed it - the missile cruiser's anti-air weaponry! Full lsit of casualties can be found in the '"Eliminated Forces'' section, and trust me, they're plentiful!
The last section that remains must then be the Western Front. This piece of land saw the first ever deployment of the Gladian Overlord Tank, their solution to what might evolve into a trench warfare, and thus boasting heavy armour, moderate speed and *gasp* twin cannons. Still, they made up only a small section of the mainly Narconan attack, which boasted large amounts of infantry, which might not have been the best move considering the openness of the Western Front. True, they approaced with caution, but this made them a vulnerable target to Raxiran Artillery, which, greatly aided by the Raxiran Tanks, Anti-Infantry Vehicles and mines managed to take out 5 whole Infantry Regiments during the opening hours, to the loss of only 1 Tank regiment, 1 Anti Infantry vehicle and 1 Artillery Regiment due to Gladian Counterartillery, which was promptly halved in size by the Raxiran counter artillery, meaning the loss of 1 Artillery Regiment (as the rest was consolidated with the Raxiran Regiment). As the fight continued, the Overlord Regiment took out 2 Armoured Battalions with the help of their Anti-Tank Regiments and the other Armoured Battalion, losing 1 Armoured Battalion and 2 Anti-Tank Regiments in the process.
As a result, the battle in both Haiden and the Western Front continues, with the Raxirans now having beat back (or rather, stalled) the Narconan counter offensive after a small distance, which they retreated from due to the issues with defending no-man's land. Anyone up for peace?
