Protests in Iyartae Empty Protests in Iyartae

Post by Mobius Sat Nov 15, 2014 7:59 am

Throughout the past half of a year, the usually quiet nation of Iyartae has been under civil unrest, but the international media has been too focused on other wars and crises to shed any light on the situation.

You see, for a decade, the government has not shown any signs of activity, and even though nothing is being done to improve the Iyartaen quality of life, the populace's money is still being taxed away. While that was a frustration, President Jaronas Capeder's administration brought the population to the breaking point after withholding elections for ten years. The constitution calls for elections every two years.

In the countryside, the Iyartaen People's Party has been gaining popularity. Inspiried by the uprisings around Kerbin, the communist party lead by Elrond Stalgruf has gathered it's followers and marched to the capital building in Isterve.

The Federal Syndicalist Republic of Segerline supports the struggle of the people's party, and hopes that they will with the power of the people secure freedom.

Protests in Iyartae Empty Re: Protests in Iyartae

It is now day two of the protests in Isterve. Streets in the downtown district are clogged with protesters from the People's Party.  Not only are they demanding the resignation of Capeder, they are also demanding huge socialistic reforms to the government. The lack of goods coming back to the population has clearly taken its toll.

Throughout the crowd near the presidential palace, a dozen protesters are holding up the flag of the party. It's a modified Iyartaen flag, with a golden hammer and sickle in the middle instead of the standard insignia.

Iyartaen People's Party Flag:

One of Capeder's security agents pulled a curtain back to look at the crowd. It looked like it grew a bit since the last time he looked. He jolts his head back as a stone flies through the window and shatters it.

A few meters away, Capeder and Toris Zemaitis, the Secretary of Internal Affairs, sit on a couch and pour themselves another glass of scotch. Capeder sighs. "It looks like our time here is over." He drinks his glass in one gulp.

"The army's still here, right? We can probably dissolve the protesting." Zemaitis suggests.

The Secretary of Defense shakes his head. Most of his generals have been ignoring him since last week.

The security agent comes back, after sweeping all the broken glass into a corner.

"Mr. President, we need to get you out of here. We could probably get the limo out through a back alleyway or-"
"No," Capeder interrupts. He stands up and walks toward the door.

"I'm going to give them a speech. Maybe if I promise all their communistic reforms, it'll help the situation."

He and another agent walk out of the room. Everyone in the room doesn't think this is a good idea, but the president can't be convinced otherwise. Maybe Zemaitis should have kept the scotch from him.

Protests in Iyartae Empty Coup d'tat of the Iyartaen Government

Post by Mobius Sat Nov 15, 2014 9:31 pm

A few minutes later, President Capeder and a few guards step outside to the lawn of the palace, where a podium has been placed. Twenty yards away behind a gate, angry protesters are shouting for his resignation.

As Capeder steps onto the podium and begins to speak, a shot rings out. Capeder falls over, with a bullet pierced through his heart. Multiple more shots are fired from the crowd and his agents are gunned down before they could fully draw their weapons.

As the crowd realises what has happened, most kerbs drop their flags and signs and start running. What protestors are left are all equipped with Iyartaen military-grade weapons and kevlar armor. The group gathers around the sides of the gate as one rebel sets the gate to explode with plastic explosive. He runs for cover and detonates the gate, sending metal flying around the lawn of the palace.

As the rebel soldiers advance to the front door, squads of secret service from within the building open fire. The rebels run for whatever cover they could find and fire back. A fierce firefight goes on for a moment, then the rebel forces toss smoke grenades to cover their advance. As the grenades are spewing out smoke, an Iyartaen APC drifts through the gate, and crashes into the front doors of the building at full-throttle. The front doors and a few agents in the way are quickly smashed underneath the APC, and it comes to a stop as it crashes into a reinforced back wall.

While the agents are stunned, the back of the APC opens, and another squad of rebel soldiers exit with submachine guns and shotguns raised. The rebels quickly mow down the agents, and the remaining rebels on the lawn reload and enter the palace through broken windows.

For half an hour, intense close-quarter fighting within the building occurs between secret service agents and the rebel soldiers. The secret service agents, horribly outnumbered and outgunned, can only hope that the Iyartaen Special Forces are on their way to bail them out. Unfortunately for them, no help is coming. Most of the soldiers at Iyartaen military bases were loyal to the rebel attack, which explains why the rebels are equipped with all of the military weaponry. Any loyalist soldiers who start getting gear to help defend the presidential palace are shot by rebel supporters, who greatly outnumber them.

The battle for the building comes to the end as the final agents grab the surving cabinet and secretaries and escape in a limo into a back alley, only to be killed by a recoilless rifle. The body count for the rebels is 58 of the 200 soldiers attacking, while the agents lose 142 of the 150 garrisoned. The remaining 8 defected at one point during the fighting.

Within the hour, protesters begin slowly walking back to the warzone to see what has happened. When they arrive, they see a new flag waving on top of the palace -- the one of the Iyartaen People's Party.

Protests in Iyartae Empty Re: Protests in Iyartae

Post by Mobius Sun Nov 16, 2014 12:14 am

A group of communist soldiers run towards a vacant news truck and take the camera, then set up the equipment for a news broadcast. Meanwhile, Elrond Stalgruf takes off his kevlar vest and reveals the business suit underneath it. He walks over to the podium and drags Capeder's body aside. Communist soldiers acting as cameramen set up in front of him. Stalgruf begins his speech.

"Citizens of Iyartae. Most of you know me already, as the leader of the Iyartaen People's Party. Today you can all rejoice, for the corrupt government is no more! For nearly a decade, Capeder and his pigs have been taking resources from the people, with nothing in return! He's cancelled the elections so he can remain in power! Today, we can all be happy in knowing that the decade of darkness is over, and now, we are in the century of the people."

Across the country, military bases are burning the old flag and raising the new flag. Communist sympathizers, which has become most of the country following Capeder's incompetence, start cheering in the streets of the larger cities. Long into the night, people will be celebrating the foundation of the People's Republic of Iyartae.

The Aquitian Empire does not view this new government as the legitimate government of Iyartae. Step down or face action.

We are indeed the legitimate government of Iytarae. It is only by the will of the people did we successfully win the fight. If there is any illegitimate government, it is the old one. They were corrupt tyrants who only did things for themselves.

Thank you for your support. Through communism, we can now finally be free.
