READ THIS BEFORE YOU APPLY
- Blank Map:
- The World Currently:
Welcome to the Encyclopedia Territorium, a collective of information containing public details from every sovereign nation. Here, a list of the existing nations is compiled as well as basic information about them. For example, regional maps. This is also where you get to apply to make a new state and begin your plans for world domination.
Applying for a New Nation:
Firstly, make sure you've read and understood the forum rules and all the stickied posts in the University. Once that's done, you're going to want to take a look at the world map to find a place for your country where nobody else's settled. For obvious reasons, you can't have a city where somebody else has Zone of Control (if you don't know what that means, then you didn't check the university like I said!). That said, nothing's stopping you from placing a city in land that somebody's merely claimed, as opposed to having actual control over. Keep your territory sensible though, if it's a straight line of pixels or it's all interspersed inside somebody else's empire, you'll probably be denied.
Once you have an idea of where you want to be, you're ready to apply!
Application Template:
The following is a template for you to use when applying (With examples in brackets). Most of the fields are to help you flesh out a nation with a decent backstory and an idea of how it is right now and where it's going to be.
REMEMBER: DON'T POST YOUR NATION OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD UNTIL IT'S BEEN ACCEPTED.
ALSO REMEMBER: POST MAPS IN .PNG FORMAT ONLY WITH NO ANTI-AILIASING. OTHERWISE YOU GET BLURRY, LOW QUALITY STUFF AND YOU'LL BE REJECTED.
ANOTHER THING: ALL LARGE IMAGES SHOULD BE SPOILERED, IT'S NOT THE MODS JOBS TO FORMAT YOUR POSTS.
Nation Name: (The Republic of Prussia)
National Flag: (Insert imgur link here with img tags)
Zones of Control and Claims: (Insert map here of each of your three cities, the ZoC of each city and any claims you want to make)
Capital City: (Berlin)
Government Type: (Parliamentary Monarchy. Insert here short description of any specific, interesting bits about how your government works)
Economic System: (Socialist)
Leader Name: (Eternal President Georg Von Washington)
Ruling Political Faction: (The Party)
Most Followed Religion / State Religion: (Catholicism)
History: (Insert a few paragraphs about how your nation came to be. This should go from the point in history where your timeline diverges from the real world. For example, here, you might have a people's revolution in 1750, forcing the king to accept a parliament, etc.
Be long winded. This is your backstory.)
Claim Justification: (Insert here the reasons for the areas that you've claimed and put in your ZoC. Make it fit your history. This is to prevent people just dropping their cities on resource nodes and not thinking about anything.)
Existing Nations:
Claims are shown in different colour to the ZoC.

- History:
- 1500 - 1600
In 1528 Bartholomeus V. Welser lent Emperor Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire a large sum of money. As a security, he was granted the colonial rights over what is now known as St. Frederich (Haiti OTL).
Comming from the wealthy Welser family, known for its merchants and bankers. Bartholomeus took his savings and joined forces with several other prominent merchants and bankers from his family, and their contacts in the Hanseatic League, and launched the Westindische Kompanie.
By 1531, all preparations had been made for the maiden voyage towards the Americas, and after several months journey, the first expedition of 250 settlers landed in St. Frederich. The settlement was crowned as Neu Augsburg, named after the home city of the Welser family, whom was mostly responsible for this journey.
The first years of the colony were harsh, due to unfamiliar soil conditions. However, as the colonists began to adapt the colony expanded. By 1540, the population levels had reached 800 colonists, but also a considerable number of slaves.
Although many natives died from the dieases brought by the Europeans, a number of them survived and were enslaved as the colony grew. The colony thrived by exporting Tobacco, Indigo, Cotton, Cacao and Cattle to Europe and to the colonies in North America.
The Westindische Kompanie grew as its revenues from the colony increased, and soon were able to finance a second colony. The colonial rights for a large swath of lands (Honduras, Belize and parts of Guatemala OTL) in central america was bought.
The first colonial fleet landed in was to be known as Geldland in 1568 and founded the settlement Karlsburg, named after the Emperor who reigned during the establishment of the first colony on St. Frederich.
Karlsburg quickly took root, and drew many migrants after gold and silver were discovered in 1571. It quickly became a large source of revenue for the Westindische Kompanie and the colonists. Not only did Karlsburg prosper from this, but also Neu Augsburg as it became a large trade hub in the West Indies. It were a natural stop for traders going between Europe, North American and Central America. The island colony expanded more and more as trade and population grew. In the eastern tip of St. Frederich, the Klein-Venedig settlement were established and a settlement to the southern tip of the island called Flandern.
The following decade saw a rapid increase in settlers moving into the colonies. By 1583, there were 80,000 living in the colonies. Large plantations were covering the plains in Geldland and St. Frederich, large mining towns such as Silberdorf, Rheinstadt and Fuggerdorf took root in Geldland and merchants were moving through the very busy port of Neu Augsburg. The colonial venture had been deemed a grand success and investment for the families who owned the company.
Colonial rights for what was to be known as Welserland were bought in 1587, and the first settlement were established in 1592, named Neu Lübeck. It became an agrarian settlement with large plantations run by the aristocrats, worked by enslaved native americans.
1600 - 1700
By 1643, a population of 2,000,000 people lived in the colonies. More political autonomy and power were demanded by the people and governors. A political crisis was brewing in the colonial empire against the crown and something had to be done. Some people even spoke of secession.
1645 saw an end to the political crisis, when the council of the Holy Roman Empire voted in favour of granting the colony the status of electoral member in the Empire. Now the colony could personally vote for Emperor of the Reich among other things. They were also granted the right of independently appointing governor without the direct approval of the Emperor. The colony had in many regards, been granted the status that the other kingdoms and fiefdoms in the Empire in Europe were having.
The colonists expanded further and further into virgin territory. Islands such as Soninsel (Roughly translated as Sunny island, Kuba otl), Geldport (Puerto Rico), Felsia (Jamaica) and various smaller islands.
1648 saw the adoption of an constitution and a flag for the colony. The constitution reformed the colony into a sort of Federal Oligarchy, where the wealthiest families had the power to vote for Chancellor of the Federation, but also to hold seats in the senate. If you belonged to one of the wealthy families, you could run for Chancellor of the colony on a four year term basis. Each state (Länder) also votes on a governor (Statthalter), and just like the other elections, only the wealthy may vote. Federation was divided into three Länder; Geldland, Welserland and Westindien with Westindien incoperating every island the carribean.
The Landwehr and Kriegsmarine were established in 1672 to oversee the defences of the colonial nation. Previously, defence were handled by local militias, mercenaries bought by the Westindische Kompanie and professional soldiers from the Holy Roman Empire. This was all very expensive, a professional military forced had to be created.
The Landwehr became the proffesional standing army of Mittelamerika. They were outfitted with the latest equipment and could be used to aid the HRE in their wars aswell as acting as a strong deterrent towards any greedy neighbours.
The Kriegsmarine became the first standing navy of Mittelamerika. It was and still is to this day, a navy build of smaller ships that are designed to navigate the archipelagos of the west indies and defend vital trade routes and intercept enemy ships.
1700 - 1800
The 18th century was a century of massive growth for the colony. Shiploads of colonists arrived each month from Europe, trying to find themselves a better life in the new world. The concept of Mittelamerika had grown, from a small colonial venture launched by the wealthiest families in the Holy Roman Empire, to a sprawling regional power. Settlements were spawning, seemingly every month. Welserland had expanded further south into south America (Colombia and Venezuela)
In 1731, a large slave rebellion shook the country in Welserland, and lead to a two year conflict. It was the first real test of the Landwehr and proved a catastrophy for the rebels. In massacres and on the battlefield, the slave population were decimated. It has been estimatemated that a third of the slave population were killed in the war. Something which has never really recovered, and remains a 5th of the total population to this day.
By 1733 just after the slave rebellion, the head of the rebellion leader were shipped over the Atlantic to Bohemia for the personal amusment of the Holy Roman Emperor.
In 1788, the population reached 8,000,000, that is quite larger than most HRE electoral states combined. Yet again the flames of leaving the HRE were lit in the colony. What is known as the sugar crisis were triggered, where the colony started to refuse selling their produce to the HRE states for a reduced prize as previously.
The crisis quickly escalated to what people believed to be a military conflict. However, it was settled in the Neu Augsburg conference in 1789 between the governor and all states of the HRE.
Mittelamerika would gain more political power in the HRE by be granted more say in the elections than the average country due to their sheer size. It would also be classed as a country, the same way as Bohemia and Austria and the others are classed as a country, and would be granted the same rights accordingly. They would also be allowed to sell their produce for the same prizes as the other member states of the HRE.
Mittelamerika had grown from an exploitive colonial venture, into a real country and political power inside the HRE.
In 1792 it was evident that most mineral resources in the Geldland province were running out. The economy of the province were modelled for a agrarian economy with large plantations for those rich enough to own slaves, and a series of family farms for those less fortunate. Some 200,000 settlers set off from the colony for greener pastures in Trockesien (Central Mexico) and established Kaiserdorf.
1800 - 1900
By the turn of the century, Mittelamerika were home to 9,000,000 people, most of them with ancestors from the North German states, South German states, Bohemia, Rheinland and the Dutch regions, but a sixth of the population were slaves of native american etethnicities.
As the world now enters the 19th century, what challenges will lay ahead for Mittelamerika?
Claims justification
The colonists historical presence in most of of central america and northern south america, has given them the sense of ownership of the region, and believe that anyone settling there without their permission is violating their sovereignty.

The most important level of government consists of the Congress, which is split into the Upper Congress, the Lower Congress and the Assembly.
The Upper Congress consists of the heads of the following six families:
- Adams
- Jefferson
- Madison
- Franklin
- Jay
- Hamilton
These six families elect from amongst themselves (or, theoretically, from anyone) by 2/3 majority the President and the Judiciary, who serve as the heads of the executive and judicial branches of the government. Both serve for life.
The Lower Congress, meanwhile, is made up of the remaining 50 signatories to the Declaration of Independence or their descendants, all of whom hold significant amounts of property or various government offices. They propose, draft and vote on bills, which must then be ratified via simple majority by both the Upper Congress and the Assembly. The Lower Congress also appoint ten-year governors for each State from themselves or sometimes the Assembly.
The Assembly is made up of ninety adult men who own property -- ten per State in the Union. The Assembly is elected from and by the property owners of each state, and serve as the "voice of the people" in the government, though they hold the least power of the three tiers. Any legislation approved by the Congress must also be approved by a majority of the Assembly, and they can propose laws to the Lower Congress. Members of the Assembly are re-elected every ten years.
In practice, the result of this is that the families of the Upper Congress hold the vast majority of legislative, executive and judicial power.

History:
- Spoiler:
- With few strong colonial powers in the Old World, the eastern coast of North America was colonized in fits and starts with very little political oversight by Europe. Most colonies were free to elect their own governors and establish their own governments, who were only in name subservient to the crowns across the Atlantic. The end result of this was a collection of colonial states with stronger economies, larger populations and greater legislative and military strengths.
Over the course of much of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the nine major colonies of the eastern coast bound themselves together politically and economically, unifying into a single, if decentralized, nation-state. From there, it was mostly as a formality that the American Free States declared independence in 1776. While feeble attempts were made to seize back the lands, any invasions were met with equal or greater force and the attackers driven back out to sea by General Geroge Washington, who would find himself named the first President for Life by a slightly more zealous and dictatorial Continental Congress.
The next twenty years were spent in the establishment of a more centralized -- and autocratic -- government, the consolidation of power, and the scouting of the continent of North America. The death of President-for-Life Washington in December of 1799 saw the hasty election of Alexander Hamilton by the Upper Congress. What will be the next step of the Free States as a new century dawns? Only time will tell.
Claim Justification:
I think they should all be pretty self-expanatory. Both the claims and the ZoCs are all based around states and territories controlled by the USA in 1800, so the only alternate-history at play with the territories is assuming only the eastern parts were administrated.

Nation Name: The Roman Empire
National Flag:
Zones of Control and Claims:
Capital City: Constantinople
Government Type: Absolute Diarchy
Economic System: Capitalist
Leader Name: Emperor Alexios IV Komnenos, Emperor Venerandus II Komnenos
Ruling Political Faction: The Komnenian Dynasty
History:
1071 - The Battle of Manzikert is a resounding success for the Roman forces. The Seljuks were beaten back and their empire fractured.
1096 - Delcaration of the First Crusade. A strong Roman Empire joins forces with the West.
1099 - Jerusalem falls to Roman and Western forces. The area is placed under the control of the Roman Empire, and the the pentarchies of Antioch and Jerusalem are restored. In return, the Roman Emperor Romanos IV, now an old man, pledges his support for an expansion of the Papal states, sending forces to Italy to aid the Pope. This would be the start of a mending of the Great Schism.
1145 - The Second Crusade is a success, defending the gains in the Holy Land from the Muslim forces.
1189 - The Third Crusade is declared at the behest of the Roman Emperor to reclaim the final ancient Pentarchy, Alexandria. The North African Kingdoms fall easily to the combined European forces, cut off from support by a Roman Levant. The Pentarchy restored at last, this paves the way for a mending of the Great Schism and the placement of the Pope as first amongst equals, on equal standing with the Ecumenial Patriarch and on close standing with the Pentarchs of the three Petrine Sees.
1392 - The Council of Jerusalem, held at the request of the Pope, convenes to decide the fate of the schism. It is eventually agreed that the Pope should become the Patriarch of Rome, with jurisdiction over Western Europe. The Ecumenial Patriarch renounces his title, becoming the Patriarch of Constantinople with jusidiction over Eastern Europe. The other portions of Africa and Eurasia are also divided amongst the Pentarchs. Minor differences still exist between rites, but officially the schism is mended and Christianity is made whole.
1623 - Emperor Justin IV dies, and as part of his dying wishes, he wills the emperorship to not one, but both, of his sons. This move angers many, but is accepted. The two brothers, Alexios III and Basil II, turn out to be strong rulers, and quickly remove any resistance. The reforms that they would put in place modernised the country's military and economy, driving them forward to become the strongest power in Europe.
1654 - With the death of Alexios III, Emperor Basil II places Alexios' son, Alexandros, in the position of co-emperor. This would begin a tradition of succession, and the empire would remain a diarchy.
Claim Justification: The claims in Greece and Anatolia are obvious. Holy land gained during the events of the First crusade. Alexandria and Egypt gained during the third crusade to recapture the final Pentarchial see. Carthage and Africa Proconsularis taken later during efforts by a strong Roman Empire to reclaim territory lost in centuries past.
Claims are the extent of the Roman Empire under Justinian I, with some areas such as Italy being considered to be under the Empire's protection, but not under the Empire's direct control.
Religion: Christian. The schism of East and West is a relic of the past, and the Pentarchy is restored. The position formerly known as Pope is now merely the Patriarch of Rome, one of five Pentarchs. Similarly, the Ecumenical Patriarch is now merely the Patriarch of Constantinople. The other three Pentarchs are the Patriarch of Antioch, the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Patriarch of Alexandria.
None of the five have special powers over the others, and the combined will of the Pentarchy overrides the will of a single Pentarch. Aside from major issues, religious matters are dealt with by the Pentarch whose jurisdiction the area falls under. Most of Western Europe is under the Patriarch of Rome, most of Eastern Europe is under the Patriarch of Constantinople and so on.

Appe, please, if your history doesn't require it, move some of those cities closer together so that the world map won't look like shit (I had to get Cziken to do the same).
Delta, you need a religion.
Both of you, you need maps that just show ZoC without claims.

- History:
- In 1714, a succession crisis erupted in the Kingdom of Bavaria: the only daughter of King Frank was married to Alfred, heir to the Kingdom of Wurtemberg. This would have meant that his son would have united Bavaria and Wurtemberg in what would have been the most powerful German state. To prevent that, a second file heir, the Count Whilhelm was found, and his claims to the throne pressed hard by the opposers to Wurtemberg. Quickly, two factions formed up in the Empire: the supporters of Prince Alfred, which were the rulers of the southern German states and of the Netherlander provinces, and those who stood for Count Whilhelm, headed by the King of Bohemia.
The tensions in the HRE were quickly rising, and what was initially just a little squabble, ended up becoming a possible fully fledged rebellion. Realizing that the HRE's own existence was in danger, the Emperor decided to step in, and acted to settle the dispute: the Kingdom of Bavaria was divided among the two pretendents, with the smaller part going to Prince Alfred, and Count Whilhelm being crowned as ruler of a reduced, but still prosperous, Bavaria.
The rebellious vassals were asking more, though. To make them drop their separatist fantasies, they were granted a number of elector seats, and a somehow greater autonomy inside the HRE. The rulers again sweared fealty to the Emperor, and the HRE was once more at peace, ready to prosper.
- Government:
- Various form of government in different states, but they are generally speaking all authoritary states. The different ruler meet in the Rat der Freien Staten, the Council of the Freestates, an irregularly held parliament that is called to face problems and decide on important questions.
- religion:
- The official religion is Christianesim. Some communities still profess the Hussite heresy, but are effectively kept out of the public life. Important Ebraic communities are found in most of the larger cities.
- Claim justification:

- History:
- Despite the prosecution of Christians by Diocletian, Christianity established itself as the dominant religion in the failing Roman Empire. By the time of the division of the Empire and sackings of Rome, most of the Italian peninsula was prominantly Christian. In the 5th Century, the first Pope confirmed his authority as the head of the Ostrogoths in Italy. During the Byzantine occupation of Italy in the 7th century, the Popes assumed the role of authority in Rome and later the surrounding provinces. In 751, the Lombards invaded vast territories of Italy. The Holy See pleaded with the Franks to protect them, and in 756 a Frankish army defeated the Lombards. This gap in central Italy was established as land of the new Papal States. The Papacy slowly conquered the naval powers of Italy, with Tuscany in 1102and Amalfi in 1132, aided by the troops of the growing Roman Empire. This mercantile power power led to a larger navy and even more monetary power of the Holy See.
In 1189, the Roman Empire finished the Third Crusade, and with all remaining Pentarchs restored, people began to fear that the fledgling Papacy would loose it's power amongst the other Pentarchies. In 1192, Furio's War was set off. This conflict was between Loyalists of the Pope, who believed that the Papacy should call upon Western Europe to reclaim these Pentarchies in the name of the true faith, and the Isidorites, that believed the Roman Empire was destined to conquer Italy. The war ended in 1221 with a status quo, but these internal conflicts and those that followed signified a low point in Papal power.
1392 is likely the most important year in the history of the Papacy and even the Holy Kingdom of Italy. Pope Leo IV, after anither devastating civil war, requested a summit to finally mend the Great Schism. It was decided that the Pope should be renamed as the Patriarch of Rome, with religious juristdiction over Western Europe.
With the Great Schism mended, trade between Christian nations prospered. With this influx of money and population, the now-Holy Kingdom of Rome quickly conquered the remaining Italian territories, aided by Roman volunteers. By 1413, Italy was under Pentarchal control, now as the Holy Kingdom of Italy. Under the reign of Patriarch Sebastian I, strategic Iberian territories were conqured, along with a brief presence in North Africa. However, upon his death, there was no strict governance of these territories, and the 3 Year's Rebellion occured, ending the presece in Africa. At the end of it, these territories in both Italy and Iberia were divided as seperate Bishoprics under the Pentarch of Rome.

History: The history of the Polish Lithuanian Empire goes back to the conquest of Lithuania by Poland, resulting in King Bolesław IV declaring himself Emperor of Poland-Lithuania, and granted the title of Grand Duke of Lithuania to his Brother Kasimir Piast III, who would be known for the destruction of the feudal system in Poland. His son would only be known for raising the taxes and creating the Winged Hussars to be a part of the Imperial Guard. After the End of the Great Northern War, in which the Polish-Lithuanian Empire was defeated by Sweden, the nation had lost much of the Baltic Coast excluding Lithuania, and around that time the Cossack's had declared a war for independence from the Empire, causing the Empire to loose its southern territory. Forty years later, a revolution occurred in The Polish-Lithuanian Empire that forced Cesarz Bolesław VII to adopt a Parliament that gave the People a say in how the government is run. In 1790, Cesarz Bolesław VII was assassinated by a Lithuanian Nationalist, sparking a short civil war that lasted from May 9, 1790 to December 20, 1790. Re: Encyclopedia Territorium
We don't need to know all of the history prior to the point of divergence (the point where your history becomes different from the real-life history). Tell us more about this revolution and how the imperial title came about (because you're right beside the HRE. Why would they tolerate you claiming to be an emperor?)

Re: Encyclopedia Territorium
Pls fix, Bolesław I didnt nearly destroy the nation, he was awesome.
Also, whyyyyyy, why you have to do this to me. Baltic coast lost? Noooooo, why why why why.
Also, i see revolution in 1756, that gave a parliament. Which means elective monarchy didnt happen, which would somewhat justify piasty dynasty... although without jagiellon dynasty on the throne polish-lithuanian union wouldnt happen.
Also, if you ask me, i dont really like your map. Too far from real life, to my liking. You know, im from Poland, and i am really picky you could say about such things. (everyone here will tell you that)
If i appear rude, then im sorry, but i just need my hussar.

Nation Name: The Khanate of Turan (AKA Sibir, Siberia)
National Flag:
Zones of Control and Claims:
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Economic System: Mercantilist
Leader Name: Yadiger Khan
Ruling Political Faction: The Taibugid Dynasty
Most Followed Religion / State Religion: Sunni Islam; powerful Catholic middle class/minor nobility; many outlying tribes follow traditional Shamanist faiths
History: Control of the Khanate of Turan has long been fought over by two powerful dynasties; the Taibugids, descendants of Taibuga, the founder of the Khanate; and the Shaybanids, descendants of the Great Khan himself. In 1563, the Taibugid co-rulers Yadegar and Bekbulat fell victim to what would be the last of these struggles, Yadegar being killed and Bekbulat exiled by Shaybanid head Kuchum Khan. Bekbulat was able to hire a force of Swedish mercenaries, with cutting-edge weaponry, and they easily destroyed Kuchum's forces. Realising a western force could do the same to him, Bekbulat kept the mercenaries in Turan, and had them help him set up a western-style centralised state. Now, two centuries later, the descendants of those mercenaries make up the bureaucratic core of the new Turan state, leading to heavy scandinavian influence on the culture and politics of the Khanate.
Claim Justification: Claims are the full historical extent of the Turan Khanate, northern areas were lost to rebellion after refusing to accept the rapid centralisation of the last two centuries.

Crichton, accepted.
Jaiteaes, that flag is the coat of arms of the House of Vasa, and is rather outdated at this point in the RP. Please change it.
