RP Planning Thread, Take Two
That's right, folks, we can't make it more than three weeks without an RP reset. Post your planned nations below.
- Murica:
- Nation Name:
The American Free States
National Flag:- Spoiler:
Zones of Control and Claims:- Spoiler:
Capital City:
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Government Type:- Spoiler:
- Oligarchy:
The most important level of government consists of the Congress, which is split into the Upper Congress, the Lower Congress and the Assembly.
The Upper Congress consists of the heads of the following six families:
- Adams
- Jefferson
- Madison
- Franklin
- Jay
- Hamilton
These six families elect from amongst themselves (or, theoretically, from anyone) by 2/3 majority the President and the Judiciary, who serve as the heads of the executive and judicial branches of the government. Both serve for life.
The Lower Congress, meanwhile, is made up of the remaining 50 signatories to the Declaration of Independence or their descendants, all of whom hold significant amounts of property or various government offices. They propose, draft and vote on bills, which must then be ratified via simple majority by both the Upper Congress and the Assembly. The Lower Congress also appoint ten-year governors for each State from themselves or sometimes the Assembly.
The Assembly is made up of ninety adult men who own property -- ten per State in the Union. The Assembly is elected from and by the property owners of each state, and serve as the "voice of the people" in the government, though they hold the least power of the three tiers. Any legislation approved by the Congress must also be approved by a majority of the Assembly, and they can propose laws to the Lower Congress. Members of the Assembly are re-elected every ten years.
In practice, the result of this is that the families of the Upper Congress hold the vast majority of legislative, executive and judicial power.
Economic System:
Capitalism
Leader Name:
President-for-Life Alexander Hamilton
Ruling Political Faction:
The Upper Congress
History:- Spoiler:
- With few strong colonial powers in the Old World, the eastern coast of North America was colonized in fits and starts with very little political oversight by Europe. Most colonies were free to elect their own governors and establish their own governments, who were only in name subservient to the crowns across the Atlantic. The end result of this was a collection of colonial states with stronger economies, larger populations and greater legislative and military strengths.
Over the course of much of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the nine major colonies of the eastern coast bound themselves together politically and economically, unifying into a single, if decentralized, nation-state. From there, it was mostly as a formality that the American Free States declared independence in 1776. While feeble attempts were made to seize back the lands, any invasions were met with equal or greater force and the attackers driven back out to sea by General Geroge Washington, who would find himself named the first President for Life by a slightly more zealous and dictatorial Continental Congress.
The next twenty years were spent in the establishment of a more centralized -- and autocratic -- government, the consolidation of power, and the scouting of the continent of North America. The death of President-for-Life Washington in December of 1799 saw the hasty election of Alexander Hamilton by the Upper Congress. What will be the next step of the Free States as a new century dawns? Only time will tell.
Claim Justification:
I think they should all be pretty self-expanatory. Both the claims and the ZoCs are all based around states and territories controlled by the USA in 1800, so the only alternate-history at play with the territories is assuming only the eastern parts were administrated.

Consider the islands yours. Assuming nobody else takes Italy, of course.

Ruling Political Faction: Pentarch of Rome Sebastian II
- History:
- Despite the prosecution of Christians by Diocletian, Christianity established itself as the dominant religion in the failing Roman Empire. By the time of the division of the Empire and sackings of Rome, most of the Italian peninsula was prominantly Christian. In the 5th Century, the first Pope confirmed his authority as the head of the Ostrogoths in Italy. During the Byzantine occupation of Italy in the 7th century, the Popes assumed the role of authority in Rome and later the surrounding provinces. In 751, the Lombards invaded vast territories of Italy. The Holy See pleaded with the Franks to protect them, and in 756 a Frankish army defeated the Lombards. This gap in central Italy was established as land of the new Papal States. The Papacy slowly conquered the naval powers of Italy, with Tuscany in 1102and Amalfi in 1132, aided by the troops of the growing Roman Empire. This mercantile power power led to a larger navy and even more monetary power of the Holy See.
In 1189, the Roman Empire finished the Third Crusade, and with all remaining Pentarchs restored, people began to fear that the fledgling Papacy would loose it's power amongst the other Pentarchies. In 1192, Furio's War was set off. This conflict was between Loyalists of the Pope, who believed that the Papacy should call upon Western Europe to reclaim these Pentarchies in the name of the true faith, and the Isidorites, that believed the Roman Empire was destined to conquer Italy. The war ended in 1221 with a status quo, but these internal conflicts and those that followed signified a low point in Papal power.
1392 is likely the most important year in the history of the Papacy and even the Holy Kingdom of Italy. Pope Leo IV, after anither devastating civil war, requested a summit to finally mend the Great Schism. It was decided that the Pope should be renamed as the Patriarch of Rome, with religious juristdiction over Western Europe.
With the Great Schism mended, trade between Christian nations prospered. With this influx of money and population, the now-Holy Kingdom of Rome quickly conquered the remaining Italian territories, aided by Roman volunteers. By 1413, Italy was under Pentarchal control, now as the Holy Kingdom of Italy. Under the reign of Patriarch Sebastian I, strategic Iberian territories were conqured, along with a brief presence in North Africa. However, upon his death, there was no strict governance of these territories, and the 3 Year's Rebellion occured, ending the presece in Africa. At the end of it, these territories in both Italy and Iberia were divided as seperate Bishoprics under the Pentarch of Rome.
Religion: Christianity

You don't say, Twinky?
This is the New Roman Empire, which is not roman and not really an empire but definetly has that new car smell. Its just a fancy title for a powerful papal state.

Re: RP Planning Thread, Take Two
Will probably go for a theocracy in South America (Can we create new religions in this game?I want to make a new branch of christianity.) Some kind of cult that got expelled from the Catholic church and fled to South America to establish the kingdom of God on Earth.
Or maybe I go for a European/Eurasian power.

Just remember: Keep it to two or three small changed to history to get from real life to your history, or it's a shit story. Gotta be something that could well have happened in real life.

Re: RP Planning Thread, Take Two
My intent is to have a church of roughly 100,000 people flee from Europe between the early 1500s to soon after the 1600s. Lead by a man who seeks to reform the church but believes that protestantism is the wrong way to go.
Persecuted by the protestant and catholic church, they have no choice but to leave for the new world to build their lifes around their "true" teachings.

Nation Name: The Roman Empire
National Flag:
Zones of Control and Claims:
Capital City: Constantinople
Government Type: Absolute Diarchy
Economic System: Capitalist
Leader Name: Emperor Alexios IV Komnenos, Emperor Venerandus II Komnenos
Ruling Political Faction: The Komnenian Dynasty
History:
1071 - The Battle of Manzikert is a resounding success for the Roman forces. The Seljuks were beaten back and their empire fractured.
1096 - Delcaration of the First Crusade. A strong Roman Empire joins forces with the West.
1099 - Jerusalem falls to Roman and Western forces. The area is placed under the control of the Roman Empire, and the the pentarchies of Antioch and Jerusalem are restored. In return, the Roman Emperor Romanos IV, now an old man, pledges his support for an expansion of the Papal states, sending forces to Italy to aid the Pope. This would be the start of a mending of the Great Schism.
1145 - The Second Crusade is a success, defending the gains in the Holy Land from the Muslim forces.
1189 - The Third Crusade is declared at the behest of the Roman Emperor to reclaim the final ancient Pentarchy, Alexandria. The North African Kingdoms fall easily to the combined European forces, cut off from support by a Roman Levant. The Pentarchy restored at last, this paves the way for a mending of the Great Schism and the placement of the Pope as first amongst equals, on equal standing with the Ecumenial Patriarch and on close standing with the Pentarchs of the three Petrine Sees.
1392 - The Council of Jerusalem, held at the request of the Pope, convenes to decide the fate of the schism. It is eventually agreed that the Pope should become the Patriarch of Rome, with jurisdiction over Western Europe. The Ecumenial Patriarch renounces his title, becoming the Patriarch of Constantinople with jusidiction over Eastern Europe. The other portions of Africa and Eurasia are also divided amongst the Pentarchs. Minor differences still exist between rites, but officially the schism is mended and Christianity is made whole.
1623 - Emperor Justin IV dies, and as part of his dying wishes, he wills the emperorship to not one, but both, of his sons. This move angers many, but is accepted. The two brothers, Alexios III and Basil II, turn out to be strong rulers, and quickly remove any resistance. The reforms that they would put in place modernised the country's military and economy, driving them forward to become the strongest power in Europe.
1654 - With the death of Alexios III, Emperor Basil II places Alexios' son, Alexandros, in the position of co-emperor. This would begin a tradition of succession, and the empire would remain a diarchy.
Claim Justification: The claims in Greece and Anatolia are obvious. Holy land gained during the events of the First crusade. Alexandria and Egypt gained during the third crusade to recapture the final Pentarchial see. Carthage and Africa Proconsularis taken later during efforts by a strong Roman Empire to reclaim territory lost in centuries past.
Claims are the extent of the Roman Empire under Justinian I, with some areas such as Italy being considered to be under the Empire's protection, but not under the Empire's direct control.
Religion: Christian. The schism of East and West is a relic of the past, and the Pentarchy is restored. The position formerly known as Pope is now merely the Patriarch of Rome, one of five Pentarchs. Similarly, the Ecumenical Patriarch is now merely the Patriarch of Constantinople. The other three Pentarchs are the Patriarch of Antioch, the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Patriarch of Alexandria.
None of the five have special powers over the others, and the combined will of the Pentarchy overrides the will of a single Pentarch. Aside from major issues, religious matters are dealt with by the Pentarch whose jurisdiction the area falls under. Most of Western Europe is under the Patriarch of Rome, most of Eastern Europe is under the Patriarch of Constantinople and so on.
