So, I'm back, the forum seems alive and well, I have metric ton of free time in my hands, and some of you asked me about it.

So here it is.

In case you guys want it to happen, we can bring back The Voyage of The Dawstar. But first I want to see how many of you are interested, and how you'd want to proceed.


Before the old forum gave its final breath and faded into internet oblivion, I saved everyone's character submissions.

This allows us to do the following:

Try to keep on from where we left - could be done, but, unfortunately, I could not save the topics as a whole, so this would be done out of the top of my head.

Reboot - The same characters, the same premisse, slightly different events. I admit that the pacing of the original was a bit... Slugish. But based on previous errors and general feedback, coupled with some better planning from my end, this could possibly be the best thing to do.

Retcon - In this long months I've revisited the VotDS universe a few times. What I've found out is that 6-months-ago-me was not that knowledgeable of science stuff as I/he though I/he was/is. Errors in the spaceship's design, the mission's architecture, planetary topography and exobiology have shown their ugly faces, and I want to punch said faces hard. This option comes in two flavours: Retcon Lore or Retcon EVERYTHING.

Retcon Lore would maintain the characters, while fixing the errors. Retcon Everything is... Pretty self-informative actually.



So with this options on the table, please tell me what you guys think.

"So what now?", you may ask.

"What now," says I in my showman voice, "is that I'm going to, over the course of this week, brainstorm a new universe from scratch, with the same base as VotDS, and I'm going to share developments and overall progress with you on a new thread, were you can give feedback and help me shape it."


So, before any of that, let's see the basics:

• The Voyage of the Dawnstar is about a colony ship sent to colonize the planet Barnard II, in the Barnard's Star System.
  
• The mission fails. That's why this is an interesting story, after all.
  
• This story is comprised of diamond-hard, shiny, polished Science Fiction. The only fakescience allowed is the FTL Drive and Comms device, and those are based on studied-uppon scientific principles.
  
• As a player, you have a compromise of adhering to your character, not pulling random events out of your digestive system's rear end.
  
• As a moderator, I have a compromise of providing you an interesting story, as so that you don't need to pull random events out of your digestive system's rear end.

Well... To be honest, neither.

The thing about the full Retcon is that everything is Retconned. Characters included.

Nothing stops you from submitting a similar character when the time comes, though.
