In an effort to both help strenghten the ties between the respective militaries, and to gain experience in specific operational fields, the Segerlinen and the Kahlawian government have agreed in a series of manouvers on the island of Faktorien.

Political backgroung:
After a period of diplomatic grievance, the situation between Segerline and the Nation X has reached a breaking point. Nation X decides that military intervention is the only solution to the situation, and hastily assembles an invasion force to land on Faktorien as soon as possible.

Objectives:
OPFOR has to conquer a bridgehead on the island to stage an invasion of the rest of the archipelago. DEFFOR has to deny the adversary such bridgehead.

Segerlinen defence plan:

Kahlawian invasion plan:

The Kahlawian Invasion of Faktorien Island

The sun was only just coming up, as the Kahwlawian invasion fleet arrived around the waters of Faktorien. Prepared and psyched for the oncoming simulation, the men readied their landing craft, as the accompanying offensive ships set out to secure the staging areas. Originally hoping to use their primary staging bay, the Kahlawian general quickly released the entrance to this bay was in fact both not wide enough and not deep enough to support any serious staging with naval support. As such, the forces were redirected to the secondary staging bay.

Meanwhile, the Segerlinen defense force had been readying themselves for some time, moving into the hills near the staging area as the fleet's intended target became more and more obvious. They were a bit spooked, realising the area only had minor defenses, but it was a hell of a lot better than the primary zone, which didn't have any defenses in the first place! The Segerlinen forces manning the various radar and radio stations had meanwhile had problems with their equipment for the past day, caused by the active jamming by Electronic Warfare components on the Kahlawian fleet.

The landing beaches were earily quiet. Although the defenses were in fact in place, many of the near-militia level soldiers had abandoned their positions and headed into the hills. In the end, it turned out to be the best solution, as the defenses were quickly destroyed by the massive firepower provided by the Kahlawian fleet. Said fleet had no destractions such as an enemy fleet, which was in fact stationed on the completely opposite side of the island. As the morning progressed, the Kahlawian fleet disembarked its troops, and although they received significant harassment from the irregular components of the defending force, it was not of any real danger for the heavily armoured and mechanised invasion force.

The real trouble for the attackers came as the troops advanced through the hills towards their objectives. You see, much of the defending strategy was based on taking out the enemy armour one by one, and this proved highly successful in the opening hours of the offensive. Indeed, they might have stopped the enemy there compeltely had they not sent so many of their elite troops back as a rearguard, one that proved unnecessary as the expected Kahlawian airborne force never arrived. Sadly, the defenders aircraft squadron had been grounded due to the significant naval AA presence, which was another factor that could have allowed for the fight to end right there.

As the attacking troops progressed, however, they found they ahd lost more than half their troops before meeting their first land-based objective, the Faktorien army and airfield base. Here, the rearguard proved their worth, as they managed to stall the invaders long enough for the rest of the island's defenders to fall back into Faktorien proper. As the invading force surrounded the army base, this rear guard managed to retreat with heavy losses, allowing the attackers to finally occupy the heavily fought-over base. The city of Faktorien itself proved an entirely different fight, as the attackers were fearful to attack seen the large number of infantry-based defenders, not to mention the entire fleet stationed to protect the strait offering access to the neighbouring island. As such, they proceded to bomb Faktorien, attempting to destroy its extensive harbour works, and even succeeding in this (to some degree).

At this point, local commanders of the Kahlawian Armoured, IFV and Special Forces Brigades ordered a final push. As their tanks and armoured vehicles rolled into the town, preceded by Special Forces, explosions lit up the sky, as the Destroyers opened fire on the attackers. Fearing catastrophic losses, the Commanders raipidly ordered their troops to dig in. Quickly, the Kahlawians sent in their fleet to destract the Destroyers, staying at a distance to limit casualties. The Tank Commanders sighed of relief, and they were quick to continue their offensive into the island's capital. While they took heavy casualties, the various measures they had taken, combined with the high number of deaths on both sides, allowed them to emerge victorious, albeit barely.

As for the final naval simulation... a result emerged that no one expected, as the submarines quickly scored a (simulated) killing hit on the Segerline carrier, using their large numbers to their advantage and overwhelming the amount of defenders.

Both sides should learn their lessons from the mistakes they made and the successes they have achieved, while it may perhaps be a good idea for other nations to participate in this kind of exercise in the future as well. (Contact me first).
