While full freedom of religion is permitted, approximately 70% of citizens are adherents of Krakenism, a relatively unorganized monotheistic religion which places the Kraken as creator of the universe, but also stresses the importance of free belief among its adherents. This means that while most citizens would describe themselves as Krakenist, their personal beliefs may vary.

History:
The history of Kaeprus is a relatively short one, beginning only about two hundred years ago — up until that point, the islands which now make up the nation were largely unsettled, with a few scarce Kortugan tribes the only inhabitants. However, eventually expeditions made up primarily of emigrants from nearby nations were sent out, and settlement of the two islands began. Initially the settlers and Kortugan tribes managed a fragile peace, but when one settlement was overrun by drunk pirates war was declared. At the cost of a large amount of lives on both sides, the Kortugans were pushed back from the two settled islands and the Republic of the Islands of Kaeprus was founded.

From the beginning, the leaders and residents of Kaeprus were largely isolationist, hardly interacting with other nations beyond basic trade and formal interactions. Eventually, however, the nation began to open its doors to the wider world — though it still holds a policy of international neutrality, focusing primarily on trade and technological advancement.

Only the region southwest of Fluminaeruza is built up much, the rest is just a few cities along the river. The roads connect ports in the river and everything else is empty steppe full of ~~filthy plebs~~ ~~noble savages~~ tributary steppe tribes.

Religion: Spirit worship, no organised religion in majority.

History:

About one thousand years prior to the present, the city state of Aeruza gained power in a small coastal region closed off by mountains. This was achieved through force of arms, and the Aeruzans made great use of the River Angaer during these battles. In time, the city state began exploration of the river that brought so much power to them. Past the mountains, they discovered the vast area of land now known as the Aeruzan steppe.
Inhabiting the steppe were many thousands of tribal peoples who herded their animals and grazed them across the vast expanse. They were quickly subjugated by the Aeruzan forces who, as before, made great use of the Angaer. They were made to pay tribute, and most did so willingly in exchange for the protection they would receive from others tribes that would raid and steal their livestock.
To this day, they exchange tribute for law.
Little has changed in the past few hundred years. The current leaders of the state are the five Marshals, as has been tradition since time immemorial.
